{STYLE WISE} – E.O.F. Prom Night with “Carrie” (1976)

“Baby, You’re a Firework…

Come on Show Em’ What You’re Worth…”

With the end of the school year comes a warm welcome to summer, and for many, a sad farewell to the “best years of your life”. Graduations have commenced, the lockers are empty, and uniforms have been put on the top shelf.

High school seems like a world away now, but we can’t help but feel a certain sense of nostalgia for those long lost days roaming the hallways, hanging out in the labyrinths of the school auditorium, or ditching gym.

There are a lot of things we remember, but perhaps one of our fondest memories looking back would have to be the sacred rite of {Prom Night}.

Decked out in vintage duds, a little gang of mischief-makers danced the night away in the cavern of some out-of-the-way banquet hall in middle-of-nowhere southern Ontario. Waiting for the bus at midnight across from an empty field was but one of the many highlights that mark {Prom Night} as truly a night to remember.

So while you reminisce on your own {Prom Night} memories, we decided to take a visit to one of our all-time favorite movie classics – Brian De Palma’s 1976 adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “Carrie“.

The film stars Sissy Spacek as Carrie White, a mousy girl who is unable to find her stride in the social on-goings of high school, and her mother Margaret White, famously captured by Piper Laurie, whose fanatical Christian ways bring more horror and terror than any boogie monster.

They’re All Gonna Laugh at You! They’re All Gonna Laugh at You!”

This isn’t your typical revenge of the nerds, as Carrie quickly begins to harness a secret power growing inside of her- a power her teasing peers would be wiser not to play with. Don’t get this secret diva mad, because once you do, there’s no holding back those flood gates.

“These Are Godless Times, Mrs. Snell”

-Margaret White.

The film also features William Katt, Amy Irving, John Travolta, and Nancy Allen as the teenagers on the other end of the popularity scale.

Perhaps you’ve already seen it, so you’d have to agree this is one fine piece of movie-making as only Brian De Palma could conjure. With a fantastic score by Pino Donaggio, and remarkable visuals, this a film that truly encapsulates the dreamy/nightmarish mood, as well as the period- which is fearlessly Seventies! Despite that, the film is absolutely timeless, and a wonderful source of inspiration.

Thus, we have devised this very special {PHOTOBLAST} to celebrate the film, as well as to celebrate {PROM NIGHT}, because no matter how bad you think yours was – it could never trump Carrie’s!!!

Perhaps you’ve heard, but “Carrie” is actually in line for a remake starring the incomparable Chloe Grace Moretz (“Hugo”, “Dark Shadows“, “Let Me In”, “Kick-Ass”) as the tormented teen, and rumors of Julianne Moore to take the helms as the uber-evangelical Momzilla, Mrs. White ! ! !

The film is being directed by Kimberly Peirce, whose 1999 film “Boys Don’t Cry” had Hilary Swank walking away with an Academy Award for Best Actress (as well as a Best Supporting Actress nod to fashion darling, Chloe Sevigny). Sounds like a sure-bet to me! Will they keep the 1970s setting, or go for a total update of the Stephen King classic? I guess we will just have to wait and see….

In the meantime, if you have any amazing, funny, bizarre, or strange happenings go-on on your {PROM NIGHT} we would love to hear them!! Please let us know in the comments section below!

Hope you enjoy the pics. Just let your mind roam free!

UPDATE!!! CHECK OUT THE BRAND NEW TRAILER THAT HAS FINALLY RELEASED!

Sincerely,
