Before Psy and K-Pop took over the world, there was Kyu Sakamoto – one of Japan’s brightest international stars, and the first Asian singer to have a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
The breakthrough hit was this one, called “Sukiyaki” and it reached number one in the US in June, 1963- and is still number one in our books!
Sadly, Sakamoto died in the deadliest single aircraft disaster in history, the tragedy of Japan Airlines Flight 123. But, songs like this will always make sure he is remembered and immortal.
Take a minute to enjoy…
Until we meet again,
