Kyu Sakamoto- Before Psy - The Eye of Faith Vintage Mens Inspiration

Before Psy and K-Pop took over the world, there was Kyu Sakamoto – one of Japan’s brightest international stars, and the first Asian singer to have a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

The breakthrough hit was this one, called “Sukiyaki” and it reached number one in the US in June, 1963- and is still number one in our books!

It’s so sad, sweetie. I heard (don’t know if it’s true) that when Japan Airlines Flight 123 was falling, he was on an airplane telephone call with his wife, saying goodbye to her and the children and telling her he loved her. [Elapsed time from the bulkhead explosion to the final crash was estimated at 32 minutes – long enough for some passengers to write farewells to their families (Wikipedia)]

What an odd setting for the video. Still, it’s a lovely song.
