Suddenly Sedgwick!

“You live alone, creating life as you.”

-Edie Sedgwick

Seems like the world is going to become even closer to Edie Sedgwick, Andy’s Warhol’s famous factory girl, and high priestess of hip, thanks to Marc Jacob‘s latest Spring/Summer 2013 presentation in New York City this month.

“If all I cared about was me, I could make a million. And that’s what they will never
 understand.”

-Edie Sedgwick

Sedgwick became an international sensation, embracing the life force that so radically inhabited her pretty prep school self. From her smudged eyes and leopard spots, to that undeniable charisma, Edie owned her persona A to Z, making it unbelievably hard not to fall in love with.

She had a bit of a tragic life, but who doesn’t? Far greater than her tragedy are the precedents of beauty, vitality, and ingenuity she possessed throughout her life, and the veiled mystery she still seems to portray. Sedgwick was also able to make a name for herself as an actress, playing versions of herself in art flicks directed by Warhol, among others.  Somehow, she was able to make her entire life a work of art, in a way, which is also tragic but also profound.

“Isn’t that sad! I’m so fragile! It’s tragic! Can you believe it? That’s so sad.”

-Edie Sedgwick

The collection is being lauded as one of the designer’s absolute best, so expect to see the scene come alive with these notions. “Young girls need to learn that sexiness isn’t about being naked” says the iconic designer, and who better than Edie Sedgwick to illustrate this.

The sexiest we see Edie isn’t naked, but when she is talking art and/or philosophy, or doing a dance in a shift dress. It’s her tightrope roping the sidewalks, or simply just having a laugh. What truly defines this appeal is her lack of inhibition and selfless expressionism….

Jacob’s collection captured the very essence of the iconic free bird of the New York City art scene of the 60s, and created a collection that is both classic and forward. There is no doubt, we will be seeing a lot more of Edie, and the inherent {TRADITIONS} she has been able to release into the wild….

I think something very weird‘s going on now, ’cause the power that is permitted to youth is quite extraordinary. And they are sort of run by that kind of power.”

-Edie Sedgwick
