‘Paul Rowland knows the language of beauty inside out, which means he’s able to subvert its vocabulary. In a blockbuster 96-page supplement to V61, Rowland and his collaborators spin through the wild and untamed worlds of Women and Supreme, presenting an ode to 21st-century beauty. “Joel-Peter Witkin, paganism, mysticism, vampires, witches—all the things I love,” Rowland explains of his inspiration.
We can definitely relate to the fascination of all things dark and wicked, which is exactly why we wanted to share this with you, our honest and faithful readers. Fashion doesn’t always have to be pretty, in-fact sometimes the most powerful moments come from those that down-right scare us.
This fascination with the dark isn’t something new. Since the beginning of time, men and women have entertained their fantasies with tales and musings of the unknown. Whether it be ghosts, witches, devils, demons, or God himself; humans love to give their lives a jolt of excitement, and mystery.
Heading through 2012, there is much uncertainty in the midst. Not just uncertainty for the economy, but the entire future of the human race. There is so much talk of “change” and moving “forward” that it’s impossible for us as a society not to feel the realm of the unknown beckoning.
We don’t always like the dark, but it’s here you will find the truths to everything you are looking for. Just don’t be surprised at what you might find there. It might scare you to death!
This spread was shot for the V Magazine Special Edition: The World of Women/Supreme from September 2009.
We take in the soundtrack of daily life, like it or not. It’s handed out and eaten up. But what we don’t tune out, sometimes can bring us true bliss. We find ourselves groovin’ on this collection of pictures and decided to share our buzz with you. Images through the eras, of music lovers like both you and me.
Anyone who knows The Eye of Faith knows that we’ve always had an affiliation with rebellion, and for us the plight of the angry teen is engrained into our folklore. We wanted to put together a style-wise post inspired by the kids who own the street. Big or small, guy or girl, these kids have a way to them that just can’t be beat.
Who wants to be young forever, anyway? Don’t worry, it gets better.
Season after season, year after year, there will always be a straight line straight through menswear. Always a stylists’ top choice, the gentleman’s closet wouldn’t be complete without at least a striped t-shirt! Be it a button down, a sweater, or a tie, stripes are going nowhere fast.
Thom Browne has done some eccentric styling for his striped looks, and you can always trust Paris’ Jean Paul Gaultier to bring a clean stripe in some form to the runway, along with Givenchy, and even Alexander McQueen. We also spotted a casual striped pant on the catwalk for Tommy Hilfiger. Alright alright, it’s pretty much impossible NOT to see stripes in all the major shows!
A tried and true pal of Hollywoods leading men from Ryan Gosling to Marlon Brando, stripes are always fresh and defyingly edgy. Sexy, whether thin or thick, we love to see a handsome man rocking a crisp stripe anywhere in the world. You don’t need a thick wallet to capitalize on this look- this is a look that’s mall cool, and boutique chic!
Truly reaching men from all walks of life over time, be it for taste or necessity, it’s a look that could balance on the tightrope of the Circus, and be locked up in a Jailhouse. Stripes are a conventional look which have always been favoured by the unfavourable.
Today or Tomorrow, new or old, stripes are a staple we wouldn’t want to live without. From street style chic to looks with a retro influence, we love a stripe. And that’s the bottom line.
Style stars are driven by ambition and rebellion! Youth of today surely embrace the idea of standing out, we say “Kudo’s Kids!”. We here at E.O.F. love the twist of a turban, or the pop of a feather with a fedora but nothing compares to somebody pulling off neon hair! A style we’ve talked about before, will surely be a style we will talk about again and again. But until then, here are a few of the kids who are bold and beautiful.
If you dyed your hair a wild colour today, what colour would you pick??
Count on Jil Sander to take it to the other end of the spectrum, this time with their enigmatic new campaign images for their Spring/Summer 20012 Campaign. If there’s one thing I’m buying from Willy Vanderperre’s shoot it’s having a sense of mystery!
The campaign has left many fashion critics in the dark, and a little scared. But anyone who knows The Eye of Faith knows we aren’t afraid of anything- especially the dark! Vanderperre teeters on the edge with a lucid dreaminess with a definite Hitchcockian vibe.
Models Daria Strokous, Clement Chabernaud, and favourite, Natasha Poly- all bring their unique characteristics to really make this campaign scream!
“As far as we discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.”
We will definitely look forward this season to find more of that beauty in the deep dark. Are you going psycho for this new campaign like we are? Let us know in the comment section below!
Until next time,
