Music Minute: “Madeleine’s Lament” by Elliot Goldenthal

interview with the vampire- 1994- brad pitt and tom cruise- vintage style inspiration- the eye of faith-ii

Did you know Elliot Goldenthal is married to prolific theatre director and puppeteer, Julie Taymor (who was recently fired from Bono’s production of “Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark” on Broadway), and studied under John Corigliano who won an Oscar for Best Original Score for 1999’s Canadian drama, “The Red Violin”?

This is a piece entitled “Madeleine’s Lament” from the 1994 film “Interview with the Vampire” based on Anne Rice’s best-selling novel. Rice hated the casting of Tom Cruise as the film’s leading vamp, Lestat; and even Brad Pitt would go as far to call him “Dr. Strange”. . .

Its definitely vibrant and flamboyant. But either way- the music is great.

Elliot Goldenthal would go on to be nominated for Best Original Score at the Oscars for it all, and go on to win in 2002 for “Frida” directed by his own wife.

Enjoy this. A great midnight snack.
