The February edition of The Junction Flea came and went, and was again, a blast.

Just to be there among our vintage and style savvy peers, who run some of the city’s finest and best vintage stores; to be in this company, is an absolute dream! We love what we brought to the table, and got to meet some really rad people in the process.

We are going to continue working towards getting even more things online at the {SHOP}, so stay tuned.

We’ve also been excited to join the ETSY community as we recently opened up a shop with them with some of our favourite and most desirable pieces. From the feedback of peers, we figured this would be a great place to promote {theEye} and the wicked finds we have accumulated.

We’re just trying to get the word out there to every available platform we can, so that our visibility online can be at its max. So don’t forget, if you are, or know any style savvy individuals, make sure to direct them to THE EYE OF FAITH!

This month’s flea was not just a home-run because of the boozy hot chocolate, but it there was simply a great vibe about the day.

The energy was so real.

Perhaps it was the Valentine’s Day atmosphere, but we were definitely feeling the love. So, Thank You everybody who made their way out, and hopefully bought something 😉

We were delighted to be set up beside the booth for OPTICIANADO – the city’s only purveyor dedicated to vintage glasses and frames.

Not only do they have a wicked selection of frames to choose from, but they are full on stylists willing to work with you to find the look that not only suits you, but can elevate you to heights of vintage style glory.

We love their store (located at 2919 DUNDAS ST W.), and being just down the street from us, we are always getting to see their wicked window displays.

There’s something really cool going on there, so we would definitely recommend any vintage lover to make their way over there to, if not grab a pair of vintage frames, at least get to browse through their incredible inventory.

Also fun was the fact that we got to do a little shopping of our own.

Going to a Flea Market is hard enough not buy anything, but then to work there all day, is pretty much impossible! Especially, as the other vendors are unfolding their treasures in the early morning. You are pretty much keeping tabs on the things you like the entire day. It becomes a funny process, really.

You don’t exactly set up {SHOP} to be buying, but with all the great things to be found, at such great prices, it was impossible not to dip into our own wallets for something special.

Just a few things:

We’ve already started reading this “MOD SQUAD, Assignment: The Arranger” book from 1969 that we picked up from the lovely Mrs. Huizenga. She always knows how to get my invested with nostalgic teenagery-type books from the sixties, and this one, with its wild psychedelic front and back cover illustration was no exception.

“Me? A cop? Why, less than a year ago, I spit in a cop’s face!” says Julie, the story’s main heroine (played by Peggy Lipton in the TV Show, who would later go on to play Norma in “Twin Peaks“), and that’s just the beginning. Can’t wait to get even more invested in this one. And for $10, how could we say “NO” ?

Finding a paperback version of Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire” is not as easy as it sounds. For months we’ve been trolling the shelves of used book stores and thrift shops, and we’ve never hit the jackpot on finding one. UNTIL, unloading time came and tucked away in one of Liz Ikiriko’s bins was this beauty.

Liz owns and operates The Arthur on College Street (550 to be exact), and has a real eye for treasures. Treasures like this one! And for $3, it was definitely too good to be true. In these cases, its always best to just take it with you.

The last treasure we picked up on our day at the Junction Flea this February came from the booth of the beautifully romantic and decadently decayed stock of one of our favourites, Tattered and Torn. Kim has a unique eye for really beautiful pieces that are not shy of their age or history. She carries everything from beautiful vintage clothes to desirable pieces for any well-dressed home. Somehow tucked away amongst a pile of old handwritten letters I came across one of the most captivating pieces of the day:

A beautiful Victorian playing card. She is the Queen of Diamonds, and from the looks of her, she is named “Rachel”. It was such a beautiful and mysterious object that truly resonated, and for $1, I was completely sold. She now sits watching as we type at our writing desk. Don’t be surprised to see her show up later around these parts, too.

So, as you can see, it was a pretty sweet day for us at The Junction Flea, and we can’t wait to do it, again. The Junction Flea is every second Sunday of every month, so mark the date, and make it out for a great afternoon of bargains and treasure hunts!
