E.O.F. Presents +KNIGHTS OF THE SANDCASTLE+

+KNIGHTS OF THE SANDCASTLE +

There once was a mysterious band of knights who roamed and raved their days and nights along the banks of the cool dark waters. Young and wild, they howled at the moon like the wolves, and on the clear days when the sun seemed to sparkle like diamonds on their faces, they stood sullen like statues of antiquity before cawing and cooing outrageously to their peers.

They sat watching the crowd waves roar; the boardwalk full of walking visitors, strange and new from far away places, that would all turn away in disdain from the boys of summer, sensing somehow their mighty position above it all . . .

They weren’t there for the sights and sounds, instead vying for an order of things far from the distressing quarrels of everyday society.

Simple positions shared amongst them all. One assigned to watch, another to distribute, another to discover, and the rest to play by the rules. No one over stepped a turn at the bottle, for each one knew that their last could be any day.  Neville, one of the leaders, would say, ‘Never shy from your true colours’ and these they would display with unbroken pride.

Your honour was earned by the friendships you garnered and gathered.

Some say they had magic on their sides; magic powers taken from the ages, used to ensure their place along the sand dunes. Others say they made friends easily, but were actually ghosts playing games on the common folk.

Only one place in the world for them. A sacred fellowship that haunts us all to this day . . .

I like to imagine seeing them there every time I go back to the seaside. Guarding their little corner of the Earth, and protecting the small sliver of paradise they managed to claim as their own.

Sometimes I can hear them sing their favourite tune; a memory that wavers from faded dream to brilliant exuberance.

It was a familiar one made their own by one of their musically gifted initiates –

“Going down to Stoney End.

I never wanted to go down to Stoney End.

Momma let me start all over!

Cradle me Momma!

Cradle me Again . . . “

E.O.F. SNAPSHOT OF THE DAY {May 23, 2013}

royal canadian mountie indian chief

Born out of a need for a national police force to implement the law in Canada’s newly acquired western territories, on  May 23 1873, the Parliament of Canada established a central police force who would be able to march across the land.  This sector has evolved into the red wearing, horse riding, yellow striped pant loving Royal Canadian Mounted Policemen we know today!

Music Minute: Le Temps de l’Amour – Françoise Hardy (1965)

Here’s just a tiny taste of one of our favourite Parisian songstress of all-time.  The great Françoise Hardy is known for so much more than just her fantastic voice and smooth 60s style.

According to her wikipedia page her credits reach from singer/actress and notes her as a Astrologist (so you better believe we’d be a fan).  Surely claiming a spot as one of our divinities of style based on looks alone, which directly influence fashion house Balenciaga.  Today it’s her voice which has us buzzing.

From the 1965 album The Yeh-Yeh Girl from Paris!’ comes this amazing track which some of you may recognize from the recent Wes Anderson flick Moonrise Kingdom.  Look for more words on this amazing subject in the ‘coming days‘, until then enjoy this delectable peice of 60s sub culture.

E.O.F. PhotoBlast: We Want to Ride Our Bicycle!

Well, summer’s here, and it ain’t going nowhere!  So hopefully you aren’t stuck at home going through endless bouts of Summertime Sadness, and can get out into that bright sunlight! Even if it’s just for a little while, we encourage our readers to get up from their mediocrely comfortable chairs, and get that leg over a bicycle and put that peddle to the medal!

We think you’d be a fool to waste another minute indoors.  Rain or shine, a bike ride would be most divine.  Get the blood pumping! We wish we could be there at your side to encourage the activity, but we want to do what we can, and astound you with some inspiration in the form of an E.O.F. Photoblast!

Something learnt very young for most, and much less risky than getting on a horse.  Go for a ride on your bicycle and see the world! From corner to corner and street to street, there will always be a new sight to see.  We get so much of our inspiration from watching Toronto’s citizens express themselves through unique street style, so we encourage everyone to do the same, wherever you may be in the Globe! Plus you get around a lot faster on two wheels then two feet.

As Birthday Boy ‘Mick’ would say; “I see those girl’s walk by dressed in their summer clothes”.  The Rolling Stones front man knows where to look, for summer is the season to check out those streets.  So check out this gallery with some fun, and NSFW shots to celebrate summer!

Music Minute: Jack White & Wanda Jackson – Black Cab Sessions

The Black Cab Sessions is a series of one-song performances by musicians and poets recorded in the back of a black cab and filmed for an internet audience. A ‘blackcab’ is a taxicab that’s common to Britain.  These sessions are always good, but this one is particularly great!

The motto of the Black Cab Sessions is “one song, one take, one cab.”

We find Jack White to be quite the revolutionist when it comes to his musical styling. And we adore him because helped reintroduce some of the greatest artists to a fad stricken America. We want to take a minute to show you all this ‘Black Cab’ Jam-sesh with iconic Wanda Jackson.

We get a glimpse on some of Wanda’s reflections on her music, her life, and some insight about the King himself; Elvis!  Oh, and if that wasn’t enough to get a person interested, the cab driver during this session is John C Reilly.
