E.O.F. Presents +KNIGHTS OF THE SANDCASTLE+

+KNIGHTS OF THE SANDCASTLE +

There once was a mysterious band of knights who roamed and raved their days and nights along the banks of the cool dark waters. Young and wild, they howled at the moon like the wolves, and on the clear days when the sun seemed to sparkle like diamonds on their faces, they stood sullen like statues of antiquity before cawing and cooing outrageously to their peers.

They sat watching the crowd waves roar; the boardwalk full of walking visitors, strange and new from far away places, that would all turn away in disdain from the boys of summer, sensing somehow their mighty position above it all . . .

They weren’t there for the sights and sounds, instead vying for an order of things far from the distressing quarrels of everyday society.

Simple positions shared amongst them all. One assigned to watch, another to distribute, another to discover, and the rest to play by the rules. No one over stepped a turn at the bottle, for each one knew that their last could be any day.  Neville, one of the leaders, would say, ‘Never shy from your true colours’ and these they would display with unbroken pride.

Your honour was earned by the friendships you garnered and gathered.

Some say they had magic on their sides; magic powers taken from the ages, used to ensure their place along the sand dunes. Others say they made friends easily, but were actually ghosts playing games on the common folk.

Only one place in the world for them. A sacred fellowship that haunts us all to this day . . .

I like to imagine seeing them there every time I go back to the seaside. Guarding their little corner of the Earth, and protecting the small sliver of paradise they managed to claim as their own.

Sometimes I can hear them sing their favourite tune; a memory that wavers from faded dream to brilliant exuberance.

It was a familiar one made their own by one of their musically gifted initiates –

“Going down to Stoney End.

I never wanted to go down to Stoney End.

Momma let me start all over!

Cradle me Momma!

Cradle me Again . . . “

The Pompadour.

We’ve been seeing a lot of these, as of late, on our virtual style quests, and find this mythic hairstyle’s history absolutely fascinating. The hair-doe characterized by its voluminous waves and carefully coiffed height was first coined in the 18th Century after French aristocrat, Madame de Pompadour – the mistress of King Louis XV. EOF - Pomp and Circumstance- Gibson Girl The style was later revived in the later part of the 19th Century and onward through the First World War, and became synonymous with the “Gibson Girl” ideal of beauty popularized in this era. The do became a “Do” again, in vogue, as a much tighter version of it could be seen on Hollywood movie starlets of the ’40s like Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. Bette Davis- Now, Voyager- Pomp and Circumstance EOF- Vintage Style Illustration- I like Your Hair, It Would Look Better on Me- Leather Warrior - Pomp and Circumstance However, it would be the 1950s that would totally turn the style around, and have the men sporting the look. Popularized by rock stars of the day like Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, and Billy Fury, as well as actors like James Dean.  The style was quickly taken up by youth culture and society’s outcasts to become a staple of counter culture style and individual beauty. From movie stars to street gangs, the style was versatile, slick, and of course, “cool”.   Tribal Pompadouria You Got It or You Dont- VINTAGE TEDDY BOY FASHION:STYLE - EOF Pomp and Circumstance EOF- Pomp and Circumstance at Bottega Venetta

The rest is history, as even today, hundreds of style obsessed and nostalgia driven guys (like ourself) pain away the day to get their hair high and enough waves to keep it up there. What do they say again? “The higher the hair, the closer to God”. In that case, we might be looking at the Tower of Babel of Hair with how popular the Pompadour is getting. Check out this latest {PHOTO-BLAST} for a one-of-a-kind blast to the past of “Pomp + Circumstance”. . .

Even we are addicted!

Menswear Meets the Museum. Fashion Invades the Lourvre!

Cool and Casual menswear invades the Louvre!  Kings, gods and thinkers; historic  sculptures receive an urban makeover ala’ Dennis Wilson style!  What we know most notably as marbleized peices of history are photo-shopped into model Adonis’s to show off some cool Rayban’s and Khakis with Plaid.  Stumbling onto this story at ModAddiction.net, we know this was a sure tale to share with our readers!

French art director Alexis Persani has collaborated with french photographer Leo Caillard to create these photo-shopped marvels.  The Christ with a denim button down smoking a cigarette, the writer Montaigne tries on ‘hipster’ style. Fashion invades the sculptures in the Louvre, indeed!

Watch the below Video to see how this all came together through the magic of photo-shop! Proving one thing for certain, some menswear styles are truly timeless.  Who wouldn’t want to hang out and smoke a cigarette with Jesus? (don’t answer that if you don’t smoke).

{Hidden in the Woods, Only Towels and Smoke Separate the Few}

This dandy has plenty of bravado standing there smoking his cigarette. Hidden in the woods, only towels and smoke separate these few journeymen somewhere in the mysterious Pacific North West.

Taken in the early 1930s, perhaps this strange photo depicts a meeting in the woods by a mysterious secret society.

Was this the leader, or just another member of the pack? He sure has a lot of bravado, not to mention some pretty awesome leather runners! Love those lace-ups!

Photoblast: Women of The Eye of Faith

The social climate is changing, women no longer are merely muses.  They run the world! And we have to say we were a part of the women’s lib movement, right beside Gloria Steinem, we would know Adam from Eve!  The subtlety of the light touch, with a floral aroma so delicate to match.  We enjoy having the divine around morning, noon, and night.

But nothing is simply handed to a gal. It can be a struggle to get power in our chauvinistic world.  Men still out-seat women in congress.  Men are still sitting in the big corporate chairs of big Industry.  There is a blatant theme where we watch power go to the head of a man.  A power which truly only a women should handle.  Dare we say, we may have passed on Nuclear Fusion in pursuit of global free energy?

Theories are theories, but this we know: women are strong, and lovely all at once.  What would the world be without the mothers to the young, and guardians of the heart?  We shudder to think, but we take some time to share this collection with you all today.  Women of the Eye of Faith: strong, defiant and beautifully bold.  From all walks of life, they walked right up to our front door and into our heart. This one’s a doozy so buckle in and enjoy.
