Vintage Valentine’s Day Fashion + Life Crush: Joanne Woodward & Paul Newman

EOF- Paul newman and joanne woodward - a couple who toke together stay together too - vintage valentines day fashion idol crushes

Of all the Hollywood stars who hitched a ride with each other  in the highway of life, our most beloved, and favourite of them all has to be the All-American dream team of Joanne Woodward & Paul Newman.

Never a dull moment with the two. Despite their classic appearance, the duo definitely display some spunk in their relationship. When you go through pictures of the two, they are always laughing, or hugging, kissing, playing games – this is the kind of couple everyone wishes they were in their life.

And you know, they never ever did divorce (unlike so many other Hollywood heat-of-the-moment marriages). Instead, they were loyally by each other’s side all the way to the Newman’s death in 2008. The two would even open a hospital for children in their lifetime together, as well as starring in 10 films together (and 5 more that Newman directed but did not appear in). Yes indeed, there were quite the power couple.

In fact, before marrying each other, Newman was already a married man, and Woodward was dating the Dapper Dan of the Decade, Gore Vidal (the iconic writer and style aficionado). Vidal later claimed the entire relationship was a ruse to distract and entice Paul Newman to Woodward. I guess it worked, because it wasn’t long before Newman was filing for divorce and making the final arrangements to work it out with the talented Ms. Woodward.

The two both won Oscars: Newman in 1986 for “The Color of Money“, and Woodward in 1958 for “The Three Faces of Eve” (sort of a 1950s version of “The United States of Tara” – a great performance).

Yes indeed, it’s like they had everything. On top of it all, they always seemed to display such class and dignity. Both their style is never over-the-top, and especially Newman is always going for simple classics in his wardrobe. E.O.F. Photoblast: The Perils of a Mask

As we spend our waking days on the open road, we come across so many new faces any given sunday.  Each with a story, and a depth of compassion unique to each individual.

If one common thread runs true, it’s the restraint one can take to fit the ‘norm’.  We’re constantly encouraging our readers to do away with this mask of normality, and craft a new facade, mirror’d in your own image.  With qualities unique and true.

Time holds no barred, because this is a tale as old as time.  Make your mark, and proudly wear the mask of yourself while starring back at your own destiny.  Head no fear, temptation will be near.  The strength you have in diversity will always stand beside you in your courage.

Old photographs tell the oldest tales perhaps the loudest.  With mystery behind the eye’s, story’s we’ll never truly get to hear,  yet an expression of a mask telling every detail.

“Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.”

-Oscar Wilde

So head our words, the world is full of so many pressures today, and it seems like everyday the numbers are growing, so the last thing you need is adding yourself to the equation! JUST DO YOU!

Find what makes you happy, and what sets you apart, then just let the freak flags fly. For two thousand years we have been obsessed with being unhappy with ourselves, and it’s about time we start to change that!

A Rebel By Any Other Name Would Still Be As Sweet…

At THE EYE OF FAITH, we are always looking to reinvent the classics.  Looking to the past for our inspiration, we sought refuge in classic rebel gear.   We bring you a page from our LOOKBOOK to demonstrate our take on a classic.

James Dean’s iconic red jacket, jeans, and t-shirt combo was our immediate go-to, and we decided to give it a bit of an E.O.F. spin to bring it back to life for today.

We found this sick rebel red Member’s Only windbreaker which we aptly named “James” for the collection, and paired it with an +E.O.F. ORIGINAL+ design which many of our peers have noted looked uncannily like a view of the ocean seen from outer space- thus “Mystical Ocean Mystery” became its title! Cosmic ocean rebel, indeed!

A simple pair of vintage pleated trousers in royal blue brings it back to that classic 1950s all-American vibe we were drawing from in the first place.

And our look wouldn’t be complete without our Grateful Dead Converse kicks.  A cool tie-dye limited edition shoe to take that classic 1950s feel and make it ‘now’!

Definitely think we made a splash here! Really love the combination, and how easily an old classic can be completely redefined to fit in to today’s world, and no doubt, tomorrow’s as well!

It’s all about the spirit you bring to it, and we’re coming full force with number one original rebel attitude!
