{MUSIC MINUTE} “Blood and Honey” by Amanda Lear

So, lately we’ve been obsessed with the decadence and glamour of the 1970s disco scene, especially in Europe! And when we found this video by avant-garde superstar Amanda Lear, we found it to be the perfect combination of vintage awesomeness and spooky elegance!!!

We didn’t know very much about this divinity (don’t worry…we will be working on giving her an honored place on our altar of Style Idols & Divinities), but we have been delving into this marvelous woman’s life like no one’s business!

Here is a woman who hobnobbed with The Beatles, David Bowie, Brian Jones, Bryan Ferry, Andy Warhol…had the model looks of Verushka and the voice of Marlene Dietrich. Not only that, she was a close confidante to THE Salvador Dali, and remained one of his closest friends and muses until his death. She even closed Jean Paul Gaultier’s 1980s pop music muses collection back in 2013!

What is so wonderful about Amanda is her mystery . . . sometimes things are best left to the imagination, and Lear keeps this enigmatic quality to this day (her birth date and nationality is still unclear, as well as other rumors circulating)!

This is what we respect most of this bad ass woman! Just be yourself, and everything else will fall into place.

E.O.F. SPRING 2018 UPDATE!

Greetings friends and followers!

It’s been a while since we’ve posted on here, so we thought we owed something to the gods of the internet! I can’t believe its been almost 7 years of us having this blog, and all the incredible things it has led us to, we couldn’t even have imagined on that fateful night we created it.

These incredible things, however, lead us to be very busy and it makes it hard to get time to create the content we know you love! So, here a little catch-up with everything we have been up to!

Spring always seems to be a busy time for us, and we have been up to some fun things. Currently we are creating a collection for one of our city’s biggest fashion events, Glamour in the Hammer. It is a wonderful event that helps support the incredible philanthropic efforts of the Good Shepherd and promoting the long history of giving they have done for those in need.

If you are in the area, tickets are still available, and are going fast! Ticket includes a fabulous fashion show featuring the city’s top designers, as well as drinks and eats from the city’s top restaurants. Definitely not to be missed. {click here for tickets}

This year, our collection +WUTHERING HEIGHTS+ hopes to bring a romantic edge to the grunge aesthetic inspired by the ghostly mood of the English moors, combining vintage fabrics and street chic style for many new one-of-a-kind pieces to add to the many creations we have made over the past {click here to see them}.

As well, as preparing for that, we are also embarking on a voyage to the 1980s with our costume design for Hamilton Theatre Inc.’sThe Wedding Singer” which has been chalk full of its own challenges, but insanely fun to sort through weird and wild 80s party fashions. The silhouettes and details of that time period are just over-the-top, and that of course, we absolutely love! Again if you are in the area, {click here} to get tickets for a wickedly funny show! Show runs May 11 – May 26.

Last but not least, we are fresh from our annual collaboration with The Vintage Marketplace, which is our city’s biggest vintage shopping event. Whilst we were berated by a historical ice storm, the event was still a success with hundreds of people making it out to shop from a myriad of local vintage vendors, with many new faces, which is always great to see our little community growing in that respect.

On top of our booth, which we were very proud of in the end, we also had the honor of producing some entertainment for the weekend. What we came up with, we never could’ve foreseen, but it all seemed to make so much sense, and was a wild way to shake up our usual fashion show segment.

Instead of a retrospective fashion show, we created the VMP DRAG FASHION FLAUNT ft. Queen Costia Sterling and Sapphyre Poison. If only you could be there to see how fantastic this show was (or maybe you were, if so, leave a comment), the Queens delivered vintage inspired numbers that ranged from Rosemary Clooney, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, and even a number from the iconic musical CHICAGO.

The most magical moment had to be when the many children who had come to the show gathered to watch the Queens, and the wonderful smiles on their faces as they watched the magic. Definitely a show for the books.

So, as you can see, we have been swamped with projects, but promise to get back more in the swing of posting on here. We have so many fabulous stories on the back burner that are just waiting to see the light of day, so definitely stay tuned…

If you have been missing us, be sure to follow us on INSTAGRAM, TWITTER, and FACEBOOK to stay up to date, and see what we are up to!

Remember we also have dozens of unique, one-of-a-kind, time traveled vintage pieces in our {SHOP} which is always changing, so do check it out, and remember to use code XIXIXI for 25% OFF at the checkout.

{PHOTOBLAST} +LAVARTUS PRODEO+ I wear a mask . . .

We’ve said it time and time again – “Don’t wear a mask, be yourself

There is so much power and pleasure in knowing who you are and literally wearing it on your sleeve, we really wouldn’t have life any other way than just being the real you! That’s why we always promote the joys of individuality, and showcase people who have applied this in their life and style.

But today, we wanted to showcase a strange new trend on the runways that was really epitomized by Moschino’s bondage inspired Pre-Fall/Winter 2018 collection: The Hidden Face!

Yes, indeed! Beautiful models covered in rubber latex so the only thing visible is their eyes and mouth mostly (very a la Season 1 of American Horror Story). For centuries people have seen faces in toast, trees, the moon …now it seems we are aiming to cover the face entirely…take a look at some pics below from the collection:

{see the FULL SHOW from Paris Vogue}

We weren’t too shocked however, because we had already been sourcing some strange style inspirations from the deepest depths of the web of +Larvatus Prode+ (“I wear a mask…”), and thought this would really appeal to our more adventurous readers who love when we explore the dark side of style!

Some cover up for modesty, others for pleasure, and many for secrecy and protection. Whatever the reason, these images truly fascinate us with their strange oddness and beauty.

So, in classic {PHOTOBLAST} fashion, check out this collection of images dedicated to those who present themselves masked…

Fly Me To The Moon! 1967 Cosak by Dormeuil Mens Suit Advertising Campaign

The competition for mens suiting was fierce throughout the 1960s – an absolute essential piece of every working man’s wardrobe, while also a time that signalled the decline of this timely tradition.

More than ever, ad men and women were looking for new and exciting ways to capture the attention of dapper gentlemen around the world.

This 1967 Ad Campaign for Cosak by classic French textile company Dormeuil displays the fun they had doing just that!

Obviously inspired by James Bond or any of the other number of mens genre media / plus the overall futurist movement of the 60s; the campaign features a well-dressed man in several of the classic suit designs alongside a bombshell blonde, and it appears they are prepping to go to space…or are in space already? Not quite sure all the exact subtleties of the scenario…its all very entertaining and more than that – stylish as ever!

These images appeared in Tailor & Cutter magazine, and were found courtesy of Voices of East Anglia.

We were drawn to these images while doing some research finding we were lucky enough to have a Dormeuil cloth suit of our own. We recently uploaded it into the {SHOP} so click here to check out the listing, or scroll below for a quick look!

Beautiful Coral 1970s +BOHEMIAN GODDESS+ Summer Maxi Dress

For me the goddess is the female of God, She is powerful if different.
-Tina Turner

If you’ve had the chance to peruse our 2017 VINTAGE SUMMER LOOKBOOK perhaps you noticed this stunning 1970s coral maxi dress with sheer bell sleeves!

It is such a phenomenal piece straight from the psychedelic 70s. If you haven’t noticed we’ve really been vibing for a psych rock summer, and this has all the appeal of a simpler, more beautiful, and compassionate time.

We were lucky enough to have the beautiful and bold Raymona to show off its innate glory.

And when we say Goddess – we don’t meant he domestic type. The E.O.F. +GODDESS+ is fearless and romantic- adventurous and educated. She loves the {PAST}, lives for the {PRESENT} moments and dreams for the {FUTURE}.

Most of all, she loves to have fun – and isn’t afraid to stand out in the crowd. In fact, she prefers it …and relishes in that very moment when everyone is asking – “who’s that stunning woman?”

Luxury doesn’t have to come with a thousand dollar price tag.

Luxury is the freedom to be you to the fullest, and the best expression of that is your style.

Live out loud. Live free. We are stardust. We are golden (or in this case, maybe, coral)…

The Eye of Faith X Style Group {BEHIND THE SCENES} Vintage Inspired Fashion Shoot

metallic gold 1950s brocade ‘Babylon Rock Goddess’ dress by The Eye of Faith

{photo by Derrick Vanderkolk @stylegroup }

So, as you may or may not know, in the past two years we have evolved our purveyance of time traveled vintage clothing to creating one of a kind handmade fashions inspired by the {past} to influx the {present} and change the {future} of style.

It really made sense in our mind to make this shift, and has led to some incredible opportunities. While we are making new clothes, many of our materials are still vintage, which makes these pieces all the more special, and perfectly in tuned to our philosophy.

We often say we didn’t choose fashion as a destiny, but it truly chose us!

[Check out our past collections: HOLLYWOOD BABYLON / VALLEY OF THE DOLLS / TAROT ]

Which leads us to this video, which is a super wicked behind the scenes glimpse of a vintage inspired photo shoot we had the opportunity of collaborating on with Style Group!

We had the honour of working with photographer Derrick Vanderkolk who helped us transform his Cotton Factory studio into a timeless jetset rock n roll pad, and with the help of Nate Belgrave we have this memorable behind the scenes glimpse of a truly amazing day.

The undeniable Nicole Buston truly gave us some magical moments which we will be sharing on the site, so stay tuned! And of course, we couldn’t do it without the help of our makeup artist extraordinaire Janet Granados.

When people ask us how we’ve been, and we say “Just keeping on, keeping on…” – this is what we mean!

We were given a piece of advise once from the Canadian mentalist Chris Mysterion back in our humble beginnings, who said: “When it comes to being in a creative field, you never dodge at an opportunity to collaborate, to do things, to create”, and we’ve held this mantra close to our heart and mind ever since.

Seems to be working out.

Rewatching these moments makes us know that we are definitely on the right track!

+ 90S THROWBACK to HEROINE CHIC +

4c6b0-1990s-heroin-chic-l-hqhimw

Photograph by Davide Sorrenti

There probably isn’t an aesthetic that struck a chord so controversial in fashion as the notorious 90s inclination towards the new look: Heroine Chic. We are starting to see a bit of a return to this vibe in some of the world’s most prestigious runways, not surprising as the 90s is taking the 21st century by storm these days.

According to Wikipedia, heroine chic is defined as:

a look popularized in mid-1990s fashion and characterized by pale skindark circles underneath the eyes and angular bone structure. The look, characterised by emaciated features and androgyny, was a reaction against the “healthy” and vibrant look of models such as Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer

We found this throwback video of a 1997 episode of Fashion Television (I miss you!) on the death of fashion wunderkind Davide Sorrenti who had been one of the industry’s top photographers for this new look.

Taking photos of his friends in New york City inspired by the images of Larry Clarke and Nan Goldin, and coming from a lineage of art/fashion, he quickly became the go-to for this latest look until his untimely death at only 20 years old from . . . you guessed it!

HEROINE! (Not doing very well for the cause . . . )

According to top 90s fashion photographer Corrine Day  (who is often attributed with the rise of Kate Moss to iconic model status and poster child of this new look) in a 1997 interview for Vogue:

“We were poking fun at fashion” – Corinne Day, 1997

Out of the 80s which was all about glam and excess, Corrine Day in particular, stripped down her editorials to the basics, and instead of big butts, red lips, exaggerated bosoms, and endless hair; she chose young nymph-like beauties with a more natural essence and a bit of grit for a more realistic aesthetic that was really a rejection of the then standard of beauty.

It’s hard to get the joke when you use the words ‘Heroine’ and  ‘Chic’ together, and then you think of the deaths of so many talented young people (first supermodel Gia Carangi, actor and E.O.F. Style Idol, River Phoenix, rock star Kurt Cobain, and of course, ‘heroine chic’ proprietor Davide Sorrenti) during this time, making it impossible to reject the realities that this truly was a problem in the industry. However, I think it is a shame to bash the entire industry and pigeon hole this aesthetic and its creators and muses as – EVIL.

After all, in the end – they are images. You take them as you do, and thats that.

“Is Heroine Chic even real?”

That’s a brilliant question Jeanne Beker asks in this clip, and its what I kept asking myself as I watched it. After all, even Bill Clinton had something to say about this trend and its abuse on younger generations who could be susceptible to the cool factor of the fashion industry essentially embracing drugs.

However, it wasn’t the photographers or models or industry people coining the phrase, it was simply a term coined by the media which quickly turned into a frenzy – on the verge of a witch hunt.

There will always be that push against changing times, and interestingly enough today we are seeing the shift realized towards more “full” sized women in the mainstream of the industry. But, in the end, what does that prove?

It is always important to push healthy body image, but honestly, some of these girls (and boys, too) cannot help being that thin, so I always find it unfair this constant scrutiny on body types. Perhaps, the less we made an issue of either end of the scale, there wouldn’t have to be a problem at all.

The truth is we don’t want to accept each other for what we are, which is absolute crime.

In the end, I guess this clip posted initially by Dazed & Confused Magazine really just got me thinking, and would definitely have me thinking for a while.  There’s no denying this controversial era absolutely broke down walls in the realm of fashion imagery, and brought a rebellion to the forefront that continues to this day.

Nobody is perfect, and that’s what I think this era really tried to capitalize on in the simplest way.

Milla Jovovich interviews at Fashion Out Loud circa. 1996 ft. Davide Sorrenti

The elusive world of fashion will probably always have some sort of bad rep, and that’s fine.

But don’t be silly enough to only look at the surface.

Try to dig deeper in all aspects of life.

Until next time,

I think its safe to say that Brigitte Bardot is fucking gorgeous.

Timelessly, so . . . a hundred years from now, we will rave on about her beauty.

A thousand years from now her face will emblazon the minds of youth tribes declaring her their new goddess.

Perhaps, that last bit is a bit of a stretch.

Currently searching for good tunes for the catwalk.

Came upon this, and just had to post based on our ever-current musing over biker culture.
