{MUSIC MINUTE} Galt MacDermot’s First Natural Hair Band ‘s “Walking in Space”

+How dare they try to end this beauty+

In honour of our talented cast and crew of ‘HAIR’ and our three show weekend starting tonight, we are sending out this lovely {MUSIC MINUTE} to the universe featuring Galt MacDermot’s First Natural Hair Band, and one of our personal favourite songs of the show “Walking in Space”.

HAIR- Hamilton Theatre Inc- 2016 - Polaroid

It is alleged that Galt MacDermot wrote the entire score for ‘HAIR’ in only three weeks, and initially with at least 30 songs per act.

‘HAIR’ is labelled a rock musical, but according to MacDermot, he saw his music more alluding to the funk wave that was stirring through music at the time. And while we remember many of the show’s lustrous melodies, it is truly the powerful rhythms of the show that give the show its unique pulse.

If you ask us, it is the music in partnership with the timeless challenges of ‘HAIR’ that truly make it great.

All aboard the train to Mainline with stops in Pottsville and Moonville . . .

 Hope you enjoy!

Until we meet again,

If you know us, you know that our tagline in life and business both is “Escape the Everyday” . . . and as of late, we have been living out this philosophy not only in our day to day conjuring our many style spirits who help us guide our way through our destiny, but journeying into the past performing in Hamilton Theatre Inc.‘s production of “HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical”!

Aaron is “Woof” and Paul is an exciting, fun member of the Tribe, and having the chance to bring this iconic piece of art to life has been a rejuvenating, invigorating, and educating experience.

Before production began, we had been doing tons of research on the original show, its history, and the time period it portrays (a tribe of hippies in 1968 New York City) in preparation for designing costumes for the production, which then inspired the decision to be an even more involved cog in the wheel.

For three months our cast and crew have worked tirelessly to ignite the fire that initially made ‘HAIR’ such a phenomenon almost fifty years ago. Here’s some photos from TIME magazine before the original show hit the Broadway stage:

{Photo Source}

Ironically, the anti-establishment ‘HAIR’  became one of the biggest mainstream successes of Broadway history, and also brought this alternative culture to the masses in a huge way.

Before there was even a barometer of “hippie” style, ‘HAIR’ put its stamp on the vibe with designs by iconic costume designer Theoni V. Aldredge (best known for her Academy Award winning designs for 1974’s ‘The Great Gatsby’).

We use the word “timeless” a lot in this forum, but the word could not be more appropriately paired with this show.

Today, our world is as chaotic and confused as ever; and ‘HAIR’ fights against this conflict with love, happiness, and perhaps, utopian ideals that might never truly win the fight, but at least, keep the fight going.

Tickets are selling fast, so if you are local, do visit the website and order them ASAP. If you can’t see us in person, we encourage you to feel the vibe anyway, and enjoy this wicked quality video of the 1968 West Coast cast of ‘Hair’ performing some of the show’s iconic jams on the “Smother Brothers” show.

This is the Dawning of the Age of Aquarius!!!

Performances for ‘HAIR’ at 8pm: May 20, 21, 26, 27, 28 and 2pm on May 22

The Eye of Faith Presents . . . Gabrielle + Architect (PLUS our very first Fashion Show)

Gabrielle&Architect-EPRelease-3rdproof

Excited things! Excited things, my friends are happening . . .

For the past few months we have been secretly scheming and planning with our friends Gabrielle + Architect to bring her incredibly evocative and seductive musical stylings together with our lust for mystery and taste for fine vintage fashion. With her upcoming EP release, we thought we could make the perfect marriage of the two, and hold a night that could only be described as purely wicked!!!

BAD ASS Mugshot rebel

Taking place at awesome 3030 Dundas Street West, we are excited to host Gabrielle + Architect here in The Junction, Toronto and feature her atmospheric electronic jazz musings for the artful and like-minded crowds that gather in these parts.

The show starts at 9:45, with a beguiling style procession by, yours truly, inspired by The Chicken Game in “Rebel Without a Cause” gone completely awry via psychic witch rituals . . . there will be both mens’ and womens’ looks incorporated into the show – so something for everyone! A great time to see our style in the FLESH!!!

We are pleased to have on board Mysterion The Mindreader, Toronto’s premium purveyor of the weird and strange (as well as being a collector of vintage and antiques, himself), as well as the delicious Esther De Ville in an erotic burlesque performance of “The Devil’s Bride” to cap off the evening.

At the stroke of midnight we will be auctioning some of our looks from the show to raise money for Mt. Sinai Hospital’s “Grateful Hearts Foundation” in thanks of the ongoing care and treatment they are providing my partner in crime, Paul.

It has been a wild roller coaster of a month, and the evening’s antics should reflect this as such. Lots of mystery, cool clothes, talented people, and plenty of drinking (if the weather permits). Should be fun, so tell all your friends!

If you aren’t in Toronto, stay tuned for all the pictures from the night!

How Could You

Hope to see you there!

It’s the eternal diva’s birthday today, and we couldn’t get away from showcasing her classic elegance, perseverance, and vivacious sense of self.

We think that she has a soul that should never be forgotten. Luckily, we will always have her music to lift us up off the ground. Words really can’t describe her talents in that area. Just listen to her cover of “For Once In My Life” in Berlin, 1968, above to see why!

Hopefully these photos help invoke the spirit of Ella Fitzgerald to make you smile throughout the day.

Ghost Hole IV: Island Edition!

It’s ba-aaack!

What do haunted school houses, Toronto island, and art have in common? Well for starters, this year’s 4th Annual GHOST HOLE is making its way to the historical ArtScape Gibraltar’s Point Public School for a night of necromancing through the powers of art!

{The Old School House before it burnt down in 1888}

This will be the first ever Halloween event happening at the site, which boasts an impressive haunted history. Visitors of the old school have cited strange feelings and occurrences in the building which was rebuilt in 1909 after a fire burnt down the original school in 1888.

There are over 30+ exhibiting artists and over six musical performances scheduled for this
one-day only event .

GHOST HOLE IV takes place on Saturday October 27th from 2pm to midnight. Rain or shine.

12$ tickets on sale now at Soundscapes, 572 College St. All proceeds from event go to funding participating artists and supporting local
not-for-profit arts organizations.

{The rebuilt School House at Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island}

We will be there, and if you have are in town, love the unknown, and have a taste for great art you will bet here too.

Looking especially forward to a psychomanteum designed by artist, Morris Fox.

These rooms are specifically designed for communication with the spirit realm through the use of mirrors. This technique of seeking mirrored surfaces to open portals to other dimensions has been used since the Ancients.

Artists have also been revered in the past as  gifts from the Gods for their supernatural talent, and what better use of this psychic tendency than to help the invocation of the lost wandering souls holding on to the memories had within the school’s walls.

Hope we don’t see anything too scary – then again, we hope we do!
