E.O.F. How To Ivy Style From LOOK Magazine, 1955.

When it comes to achieving that legendary Ivy Style, one shouldn’t have to think too much at all.

When we came across this simple spread from 1955 we were struck with the straight forwardness of the editorial, as well as the run-down on how to achieve that Ivy Look.

The article was so fascinating and perfect, we had no choice but to share and feature it with our readers here at The Eye. Knowing the ins and outs of the Ivy Look is essential for any style enthusiast, so it was only right we help educate and relate!

The key really is having those classic and timeless pieces in your wardrobe so that you’re not really having to worry so much about how it’s all coming together. You take your hand, and you touch that sports coat or shirt and all the sudden it is fused to your being for the day.

Sometimes it just feels right. The best part about it is, you can see that it’s not necessarily about being some kind of perfect specimen, at all. In fact, it is much more about pairing the unexpected, and contrasting patterns and textures in curious ways to make those around you take that second look and say “Whoa! That guy has got it together!”

At that, my friends, will make you feel damn good.

So, what’s that acronym again they are always saying? K.I.S.S….You don’t have to do much but be yourself, be comfortable, and show off a little.

KEEP IT SIMPLE SPIRITS!

Special Thanks to THE IVY LEAGUE LOOK.

Sincerely,

Baby, Let’s Cruise Away From Here. . . GUCCI Men’s Cruise 2017

Gucci Cruise 2017 at Westminster Abbey, London {May, 2016}

“I chose Westminster Abbey because everyone has this idea of London being cool, but for me the history is what’s really cool.”

-Alessandro Michele {source}

Gucci-Cruise-Men-2017-1

Check out this righteous collection of photographs from Nick Waplington of the menswear in Alessandro Michele’s triumphant 2017 Cruise collection for GUCCI making another landmark in style for the classic Italian high fashion brand, and what is being known as another groundbreaker in the area of men’s fashion and style.

The inspirations are vast and varied ( spot turn of the century collegiate vibes, 80s punks, 90s street couture, 1920s leisurewear, 70s bohemian playboys, 50s varsity jocks,  19th century naturalists, Edo Japan, and more ), and its this exciting eclecticism that is putting Michele at the forefront of truly changing the way we look at specifically men’s fashion, which for the most part has become a sea of black, beige, and boring.

Our motto has always been ‘more is more’, and we’re happy to have such a prestigious like mind in our corner on the matter. If you are unfamiliar with the new GUCCI vibe, this collection of portraits will not only be getting you a taste, but you will truly understand what all the buzz is about. Taken almost portrait style, the loud and eccentric looks are jarringly juxtaposed against the backdrop of a stately English country home like a tribe of wanderlusting young men who had just conquered the Old World and are setting forth establishing the New.

Gucci-Cruise-Men-2017-73

This is a new voice, yes; and yet, much of what we see isn’t necessarily “new” in any way, in fact, as we pointed out with the mass of inspirations colliding in this collection, its a true example of taking from the {past} to invigorate the {present} and thus poising change for the {future} …

“The men’s wardrobe is like a ritual and I am fascinated by it and its codes. The codes are not to be cancelled, they have to be reinvented and repositioned in a different fresco. There is the part of formalwear which I consider like the father of all the different styles. There are some punk pieces which are the most romantic part of the collection. When you are punk you are romantic, because you want to break the rules. And then there is the preppy/street part which recalls college-wear and is thought for more relaxed moments. Each of these parts has its own codes and, as always, I enjoyed putting a sort of confusion among the different codes and languages.”

-Alessandro Michele {source}

We have always felt like fashion and style is like a secret society full of codes and rules and symbols that all add up to create greater meaning . . . like geomancy, the way you mix and match elements have different suggestions and powers. If you are wise, you can use these powers to your advantage in your day-to-day, and even make great strides in following your path to destiny.

Through Alessandro Michele’s meticulous orchestration, and continuing success in the fashion industry, be sure to check out the change that is ready to explode in our everyday! Just look around . . .

After looking through the photographs, I’m sure you will notice the sense of individualism achieved in this collection which is a funny thing to say, when a collection is usually thought of as a wholly distinct and cohesive mass, however, what Michele knows is that there will be dozens of different men who in their daily lives belong to whichever tribe  (suits, shorts, bohos, rock n rollers, geeks, streets, etc.) and having such an eclectic array provides the greatest cohesion amongst men.

Also, note the artisanal quality of each piece. This not the same GUCCI that you find horrible knock-offs of in Chinatown . . . these are truly thought out works of art. From the embroidery, to the hand painting, to the beading, bleaching, patchwork, knitwear; each piece has a true artist quality that renders the price tags not even as devastating when you think of the work involved, as well as the increasing value throughout time.

Even with all the embellishment, at the end of the day you are looking at classic and timeless pieces. If you check out our {SHOP} you can find a lot of style-wise pieces that can help you achieve the look!

The Eye of Faith Presents +Hollywood Babylon+ September 12, 2015 @ 3pm SUPERCRAWL 2015

hollywood babylon large

It’s almost that time of year again! Supercrawl is going to take over the streets for three days of music, fashion, art, and FUN. Last year was a blast, and we’re so excited to announce that we will be taking over the Supercrawl Fashion Tent not once, but TWICE this year.

We will be debuting +HOLLYWOOD BABYLON+, our first contemporary collection on Saturday September 12 at 3pm in the Supercrawl Fashion Zone Tent, so mark your calendars and save the day. If you will be around and would like VIP seats to our show give us an email at the.eye.of.faith@gmail.com!

Our collection was inspired by the decadence and decay of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Combining a street chic attitude with the textures and ease of 1930s/40s leisurewear; looks range from a Hollywood starlet enjoying an afternoon cocktail by the pool to dangerous ingenues in metallic evening gowns that put a meaning to “if looks could kill…”

It’s a bit of a departure for us, especially if you have been following our side since the beginning, but we felt this foray into womenswear would be the perfect breath of fresh air for us, as well as a chance to stretch our creative muscles in a totally new ‘fashion’.

Our biggest pull to this collection was in fact Veda Pierce, the sophisticated, driven, and treacherous daughter of Mildred Pierce in the classic neo-noir “Mildred Pierce”. Here is a girl who is striving to be ahead of the norm, worldly and too classy for her own good.

She’s not afraid to do anything to get what she wants in life, and on top of it all she is devastatingly gorgeous and talented to boot. Perhaps a little too dangerous and manipulative for most people’s liking, but she definitely helped spawn our imagination when setting out on this unique opportunity to showcase what we are all about….summoning the {PAST} into the {PRESENT} to help shape the {FUTURE}….

It’s going to be a stellar show, and much blood, sweat, and tears have gone into putting our best foot forward in what can only be described as a bold new chapter in our fashion careers, so don’t miss out! If you’ve noticed that we haven’t been posting too much on our blog this summer- this is why!

Our second show will be on Sunday September 13 in the Supercrawl Fashion Zone Tent from 3p-5p and will be an epic spectacle of vintage fashion aptly named The Eye of Faith Presents A Vintage Showcase!!! That’s right folks, we will be curating a two hour long fashion show featuring nothing but vintage head to toe, and will be taking audiences on a ride through time and into the +BEYOND+!!!

We will definitely be posting updates as they come so make sure to FOLLOW US on INSTAGRAM  and TWITTER (@theeyeoffaith) or LIKE US on FACEBOOOK (/theeyeoffaithvintage) to stay informed on all the exciting things we’re up to these days.

I’m pleased to announce that we will be partnering up with Vintage Soul Geek to create this epic showcase of vintage glory, and will also start carrying some select pieces of our collection in their shop come September so watch out!!! More on that soon…but in the meantime, check out our inspiration mood boards for The Eye of Faith Presents a Vintage Showcase!!!!

“But Love Most” E.O.F. Exclusive Original Poem by Greta Bellamacina

GretaBellamacina

But Love Most

by Greta Bellamacina

I can stand inside of you

Inside your cotton field, as fine as Chinese tea.

Your memories transform my internal eye

In depths of frost, deeper than wood.

Your ring eyes are the tires to this upwards prize.

This is you, the spindle and the lifelong.

Next you appear, when I will be gone

Not to miss, for all you can

But love most.

And she has grown

And now she is yours, to water

Under the pocketwatch moon.

All is bare

For you to shade, toast, lose.

A NEW DAY FOR NEW WAVE! BEHIND THE SCENES of Prada’s FALL/WINTER 2013 – 2014 Menswear Campaign

Prada-Mens-Fall-Winter-2013-2014-Advertising-Campaign-Christoph Waltz

Check out this wicked behind the scenes of Prada‘s latest menswear campaign for this Fall 2013 starring Academy Award winning actor, Christoph Waltz, the devilishly talented Ben Whishaw, and “We Need to Talk About Kevin” star, Ezra Miller. It’s another testament to the power of the past, and its never ending influence on the world today, and in the process of it all, even tomorrow.

We’re also including a few snapshots and stills from some actual 1960s French New Wave classics to give you the edge on what its all about.

Pierrot le Fou- Vintage style inspiration- interior

New Wave was a “tidal wave” of creativity by some of France’s most hardcore film fans – the critics of the Cahiers du Cinéma. Names like Godard, Rohmer, Truffaut, and Chabrol spearheaded the movement which is still remembered today as one of the single most important periods of film making which would revolutionize modern movie making closer to the films we see today. It was all about innovation and bringing the medium to a new level with influence from their master predecessors stemming from a passion for the moving image.

Just watch Godard’s classic film “Breathless“, and it will all make sense.

Vintage Style Icon- Jean Seberg- French New Wave

Many of the stars of these films such as Paul Belmundo, Anna Karina, and the tragically beautiful Jean Seberg (she died of an overdose at 40) remain style icons and divinities worshipped to this day. The look was easy, classic, and a little disheveled, partnered with some serious chain smoking and a non-chalant sense of being and you are right on your way. Get a great pair of sweet sun glasses and a cool hat, and you’re pretty much set.

The New Wave campaign by Prada is a cool ode to the vibe using bold colour and stark minimalism to evoke the period. Great to see such a well-rounded and talented group of actors called to helm the vision.

We were pleased to find Montreal/Toronto artist Morris Fox rocking his summer best the other afternoon and were eager to catalogue his Intergalactic Urban Summer Warrior look for the books.

He is wearing a hand-dyed and painted galaxy take-over of a vintage Wu-Tang tank top (a Morris Fox Original), and a sick pair of DIY denim shorts (artists have all the secrets to getting the job done right).

The pièce de résistance? An amazing vintage trucker hat with a killer 80s ‘INTRUDER’ graphic that includs radiating Hawk Eyes and a jet plane racing down a runway. Beyond!

Talk about bring the {PAST} into the {FUTURE}; this is a great example of how a little imagination and skill can appropriate a tired article of the past into a vivid work of art that treads past the trends of today, and leads a vision towards a distinct new hope.

{MONDAY MUSIC MINUTE} “Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft” by The Carpenters

calling occupants- the day the earth stood still

Last time we shared some tunes by The Carpenters was far too long ago, and with the 66th Anniversary of the Roswell UFO Incident , what better song than their most marvellous, spectacular, and epic track – “Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft“.

Originally produced by the band Klaatu, The Carpenters made it their own a year later, and it remains one of their more unusual and eccentric pieces, and probably one of our personal favourites! You won’t believe your ears if you’ve never heard this one. Definitely some sort of revelation. Too bad Karen wouldn’t make it to produce more vivid, narrative tracks like this one!
