What are the secrets locked deep in history that are haunting us each and everyday? Who are the makers of today, and who shall we become tomorrow?

The Original Roller Skater

The aspirations that seem to be engrained into our soul are to finally climb out of the epic pits of insanity that we collectively call humanity. Nothing ever seems to make sense. In fact, it is impossible not to feel in RAGE!!!

We’ve always been left simply searching…

Perhaps you search the aisles of the school library for some sign of truth, or perhaps you are wise enough to search the labyrinth of light in the sky for a pattern or sign to guide your every wake. The riddle of the sphinx, has it ever been solved? Or is it simply that it’s question has never even been asked . . . ?

What is it about the night? What do we achieve when we dream? This is a journey by man, a mystery that never ceases to delight. Deep in our dreams, we have found our very own {MASTER MASON} waiting patiently for our arrival. Waiting for us to say we’ll stay.

But that would be like laying awake in the shadows you can actually see at night.
We can go about our day to day and never once seek the layers beneath the fragile surface of time and our past . . .

In fact, it continues to live on and on forever, like something eternally true.

Go about your day to day. Seek the seekers in the shadows.

Lets find the {MASTER MASON} that’s within us all…

Commercial Break: Seventies Style Orgy – “Baba Yaga” (1973)

Baba Yaga 1973- The Eye Wonders Baba Yaga 1973- shot through the heart and youre too late - vintage fashion film inspiration Baba Yaga 1973- illustrated title

Perhaps its the fashion photographer protagonist . . . or maybe the sexy 1970s set decor; most definitely attribute the funky score by Piero Umiliani (you know him – “Mah Nà Mah Nà”), as well as the brilliant presence of film legend, Carroll Baker (“The Watcher in the Woods“, “Babydoll“), and those quirky illustrations that appear, throughout the film – “Baba Yaga” is a bit of a shit show, but a wonderfully unique and stylish one, at that.

I thought Daily Grindhouse summed it up best:

Carroll Baker (BABY DOLL, THE WATCHER IN THE WOODS) is the titular stranger who is all sexed up with hunger for some female flesh. Baba Yaga sets her sights on fashion photographer Valentina Rosselli (Isabelle De Funes) after a chance encounter and soon pays a visit to her humble abode to deliver a doll dressed in some S&M gear for “protection”. After the visit, Valentina’s life is turned upside down; she is suddenly surrounded by death, hallucinations, Nazis (?), and more naked women than a Las Vegas casino. Of the four I prefer the naked women… just sayin’.

It’s these bizarre, unusual, and unexpected (perhaps, even absurd) elements that make a cult classic like this one to remember! You can totally read this film (even just the trailer) for clues on seventies style, and how timeless one can really make it. Love the stripes, the furs, the bobs, the rings . . . love it all! Even the menswear is pretty sublime.

Did I mention there’s witches? You probably gathered, by now. After all – “Baba Yaga” literally translates to Devil Witch! So, sit back and enjoy the sumptuous feast of the best vintage, stylish, erotic, exploitation, sleaze in three and half minutes you’re bound to find on the internet!

Enjoy the pictures, too.

They really capture the little moments that make this one worth remembering.

[special thanks to Rock! Shock! Pop!]

The Eye of Faith has got you covered! We sift through the shit, to find you the good stuff.

Don’t forget to share with friends. I’m sure they will get a kick.

Seventies glamour is going to be right back in swing.

Or already is? Or never wasn’t?

Just brush up.

A bit.

{PHOTOBLAST} Can You Spend a Night in a Haunted House?

Well, can you?

They don’t have out contests like this anymore…can’t even imagine the liabilities and lawsuits that could potentially haunt the contest’s organizers in the long-run.

We procured this 1958 issue of “Suspense Magazine”, and couldn’t ignore the idea of this contest invite. In fact, it got us really thinking if we could truly spend a night in a haunted house…

Cobwebs, passageways, and broken shutters immediately come to mind. You never know what could be lurking in the shadows. After all, it is haunted, and what horrible past could really be contained within its cold cavernous walls? The whispers beneath the floor boards might be telling you something…

I guess we’ve just been in the mood for a little scare. So if you too are urging for a little hit of mystery and wonder…check out our latest {PHOTOBLAST} – it’s been a while!

Hope you enjoy this one!

Abandoned ‘Wizard of Oz’ Theme Park To Open!

abandonned wizard of oz theme park

An abandoned theme park based off of Frank L. Baum’s classic ‘Wizard of Oz’ will re-open its doors between October 5th and 6th to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of “Autumn at Oz”; a once a year reunion for past employees of the now derelict park in North Carolina.

The Land of Oz‘ opened its doors in 1970, and allowed guests to trot down the yellow brick road, take a balloon ride, and meet the Wicked Witch of the West, but by 1980 the park closed its doors, leaving the magical land of Oz to succumb to the wilderness.

Last year over 8,000 people attended the reunion, so be sure to check it out if you’re in the area this weekend!

Styling Orchards, the Band; Plus BONUS {MUSIC MINUTE} “Oh, Sister” by Orchards

The Eye of Faith -Orchards - Ally Kristensen Photography - 3

I learned long ago that when someone asks you to pull looks for a vaudeville circus inspired shoot, you do so!

Granted, I’ve never been asked to in this life, but something just tells you to jump at the opportunity when its right. We didn’t even have to question whether or not we wanted to be a part of this when the beautiful, and lovely (don’t forget talented) Jessica Panetta asked if we’d want to work together, and pull some looks to bring to a shoot for the city’s finest up-and-coming folk band, Orchards.

The Eye of Faith - Orchards - All Kristensen Photography - 10

Orchards comprises of Anthony William Wallace (violin, banjo), Daniel John Taylor (bass, guitar, ukulele), and Gabrielle Sylvane Charron-Merritt (trumpet, guitar) who are all uber-talented, fun, and highly multi-disciplinary artists who dove right into every scenario with gusto and poise.

Couldn’t have done it without my wardrobe partner, Heather English, who had a great eye for colour and detail (heart!) .

The Eye of Faith -Orchards - Ally Kristensen Photography- 13

Their music is haunting and eloquent with captivating melodies that evoke lost memories from deep within our collective consciousness. The songs are classic and utterly timeless bringing a modern twist to classic folk sounds. Needless to say, their music was the perfect inspiration for the shoot.

We played off the softness and decadent dishevelling of men and women seen in vintage photographs for the quieter moments, and looked for bold and intriguing colour and graphic combinations to complete the circus vibe.

All in all, I think the look completed is a nod to the past, but is completely reinvented – just like Orchard’s own music, which ultimately is the element we all hoped to showcase.

Each shot is so great to look back on, as you remember it all happening – when it was moving, and there were sounds, and laughter, and distraction; not with a photograph. These are magic moments here, captured throughout.

Please enjoy the photographs, and definitely dive into the track below entitled “Oh,Sister” by Orchards for a true escape from the everyday . . .

{PHOTOBLAST} SKULL & BONES SOCIETY

Thout Shalt Not Enter

There’s no denying our obsession with the iconography; the classic skull & bones is an age-old motif that has fascinated and enchanted for centuries. It can mean power, it can mean wealth, it can mean science, it can mean art.

As Hamlet proposes “To be, or not to be”, so we are faced by the grim reminder of our inevitable end every time we see a skeleton or skull, and yet it seems our society is still obsessed. It seems like some sort of riddle. That we can still hold onto the bits and pieces of our ancestors. In a sense, that’s all that is left after thousands of years.

Skull Scare

It can be a tender reminder, but it can also cause a fright! We hate waking up in the middle of the night to see a skeleton, or skeletons, walking around outside your bedroom. We hate seeing them pop out of their graves. We hate when they attack you in the middle of the night when you are away from busy intersections.

So whether we are crippled with fright, or sporting a warning of your vicious vibrations, or just like the look, the skull is about a classic a symbol as ivy or the fleur-de-lis. We love having them in our art, on our clothes, and in the things we watch on screens. Perhaps it’s as simple as the title says. . . we are a Skull & Bones Society!

Get your inspiration on! Skulls and Skeletons can come to life!

Until next time,
