BURGER GIRL WANTS YOU…

If you have never heard of Benjamin Dukhan then please let me introduce you to one of fashion’s most intelligible of beings. His face has helped redefine the image of the male model, whom had always been young, spry, and smooth. While he is both young and spry, it is his scruffy hairiness that has helped make a mark for the man on the mainstream.

With a beard like Zeus, Benjamin has become a one-of-a-kind life force in the industry, walking for some of the biggest names out there, and bringing a manly elegance to each new look he dons. He has also shown up on The Eye of Faith in the past in our story entitled “My Demon Brother” walking one of his best looks in the Jean Paul Gaultier FW 2011 collection.

As well as his continuing stint as one of fashion’s staple faces on the catwalk, Benjamin Dukhan’s exciting multi-disciplinary background has taken him, and the industry, to new and unseen heights.

Beginning his career as a dancer, Benjamin has been able to fuse his love for movement with his unlikely chameleon nature in a continuing performance art piece called BURGER GIRL. As much an art piece as some sort of alter-ego or secret persona, the videos Dukhan and his collaborators have produced give rise to thousands of new notions of what it means to perform in front of a camera.

Not only is Benjamin pushing the bounds of what it means to be a “super model”, but he is also pushing the bounds of dance, art, video, music, and fashion to a world where each can see each other off and amalgamate into a singular dynamic art form.

So where do you come in?

Benjamin needs the help of as many people as he can to fund his latest BURGER GIRL project. Donated funds will go towards the production of his 10th and final video, “Vogue Positive” which will be featured on the official site, as well as on Youtube, and will most likely tour the European underground scene.

There are only four days left to make a contribution, so please check it out.

+You can make your donation here. +

Also make sure to check out his site to watch more original BURGER GIRL videos.

Benjamin is graciously awarding contributors with gifts according to the size of the donation, so best to give generously. It’s not everyday that a high fashion supermodel needs your help, so let’s pull ourselves together and do what we can for the sake of fashion, the sake of art, and getting these worlds closer and closer together!

Sincerely,

{theEye}

Right, When Cat’s Fly! Only in Amsterdam.

Macabre, or just plain gross? We aren’t sure what to make of a recent ‘art’ piece that made its debut at the KunstiRai ArtFair in Amsterdam which takes the artist’s pet Cat and converts the fluffy friend into a Hell of a helicopter.  The blogosphere has ignited with opinions as to whether converting one’s deceased pet into a flying machine is in bad taste, or mildly unique of an idea.

Dutchman Bart Jansen decided to honor his furry friend – aptly named Orville – after it was killed by a car, into a one of a kind “Orvillecopter.” Jansen describes his artwork as mostly about what happens when the race for technological progress meets human error.

“After a period of mourning, he received his propellers posthumously,” Jansen wrote on the video’s description. “Now he is flying with the birds. The greatest goal a cat could ever reach!”. We really just wanted to share this information with you all and ask.. what do we make of this?

I Can See! I Can See The Eye!!

There is something to be said about what can be seen, and there isn’t very much to say when you can’t see at all.  We are taking a closer look at a Cat Eye, or Horn-rim.  A  bug-eye or no rim?? What are we talking about? Why, the wonderful world of corrective eye-wear!

Dating back to ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, we find the first known case of ‘magnification’ depicted as ‘simple glass meniscal lenses’.  Evolving further to the days of Emperor Nero of Rome, when a globe or glass was filled with water to aid in enlarging small written text, it is also said that Nero would watch the Gladiatorial Games using an Emerald as a corrective lens.
Personnel style does not take a back seat when it comes to sporting frames for focusing.  Invented for the genuinely blind,  but manufactured in gross nowadays with plain plastic lenses for modern-day hipsters. We’ve taken a journey through decades to discover just how far we’ve come.  Glasses for fashion, glasses to see, but most importantly, a pair to focus on you and me.

E.O.F. Approved: Vintage Mens 1940s/1950s Tiger Sweater

Anyone who thinks vintage shopping is all drab and dust has got it all wrong. Case in point, this handsome 1940s/1950s era ‘Bud Berma’ Sweater with Tiger!

‘Bud Berma’ is one of the original purveyors of menswear in America, and while I’ve mostly seen your typical flannel checks from the brand, this is definitely one rare and unique catch! We’re always on the hunt, like vintage fashion predators, looking for the coolest finds.

Be the one on the prowl! Love the emerald green tiger everywhere, and definitely love those Varsity stripes. This is Academic style with an edge. You could take your look anywhere with this one: clean cut, grunge, rockabilly, punk, or preppy- it’s all up to you how you’re feeling. Definitely something fun to accessorize too. You’ll be turning heads, for sure!

This super cool find is currently up for grabs, but don’t take too long, there seems to be a lot of interest! Click here for it to be yours.

Hailee Steinfled: Miu Miu Meow!

Uh oh, looks like our favourite part-filipina’s gotten herself in some boiling hot water! Seems that the young actress’ latest ad for Italian brand Miu Miu, has come under fire for it’s negligence when it comes to the safety of our youth!

According to the British Advertising Standards Authority, the ad which depicts the 14 year old Actress woefully wiping a tear as she sits perched on a railroad track, is wrecklessly ‘irresponsible’ for ‘showing a child in a hazerdous or dangerous situation’.

Representatives for the Label claim that the True Grit actress ‘could have easily moved from where she was sitting because she was not restrained in any way.”. But that didn’t Stop the ad, shot by acclaimed photographer Bruce Weber, from being pulled in the UK.

This wouldn’t be the first time an ad was deemed too racy for the market across the Pond. We do recall a recent photo of Dakota’s Flower that caused a similar buzz. Is age really the issue? Was there a real danger? Or are we just finding stupid reasons to fault the aspiration of fashion campaigns?
