Krampus Christmas Time! Santa’s Personal Devil Side-Kick Might Just Be Visiting a House Near You . . .

Krampus4

You better not shout. You better not cry. You better not pout, I’m telling you why . . . Krampus is coming to town!

That’s right, kids! Hide under your blankets, and seal your window tight, because this Holiday Season not only calls for the arrival of our good friend St. Nick, but along with the classic jolly do-gooder also comes his hungry devil friend!

No, my words are not tied. You heard it right! A devil friend! Every year for many hundreds of years, European tradition has depicted a very cruel and very hideous counterpart to Santa known as Krampus.

Krampus is pretty much your stereotypical vision of the devil: red fur, horns, claws, even a weird sick little tongue he likes to stick out. Best part of all is he likes to carry around chains to beat and whip the kids that get in his way!!!

Throughout Northern Italy, Austria, and other parts of Europe, people celebrate Krampusnacht in honor of this holiday beast. Party-goers dress up as demons, devils, and witches, masquerading through the town intoxicated and terrifying adults and children, alike!

Many people believe this tradition dates back thousands of years to Pagan traditions where both Krampus and Santa Clause can be seen in the archetypes of Old Man Winter and the Goat-Man. This must also be part of the whole SANTA = SATAN mythology.

Krampus isn’t a character you see anymore in the mainstream, but during the 19th Century and early 20th Century a huge craze for Krampus Greeting Cards swept Europe.

Surreal and a little cheeky, there is no avoiding the grim horror of such a devil beast actually torturing and even eating children for Christmas! But, seeing as this is The Eye of Faith, we thought some of these cards would be the perfect thing to share with our readers, and perhaps we may even start to see a resurgence! (This would make Krampus very happy . . .)

{Special Thanks to Morbid Anatomy for some of the Krampus pics . . . }

I always thought something was missing to the story of Christmas. Now it all seems to make (a bit more) sense . . .

Don’t forget to share these with your friends, and for more images and to learn more about the traditions of Krampus, please visit the official site!

Thanks for reading, and Happy Holidays!

Sincerely,

THIS DAY IN HISTORY: ROSWELL TURNS 66 !!!

Roswell-Sacramento-Bee-Article-July-8-1947

fake roswell alien

This is a still from what Ray Santilli claimed was film footage taken from the Roswell UFO incident depicting an alien autopsy. The film was released in 1995, but later revealed in 2006 as a hoax. Santilli maintains that it was a reconstruction of real events opposed to a fabrication.

Today marks the 66th anniversary of the alleged crash of a flying saucer just outside Roswell, New Mexico.

This special date, and strangely special anniversary number (66 being a universal number of unconditional love, healing, and trust in the divine), are being celebrated by Google today in their daily Doodle.

It was a very frightening and exciting time, that has no doubt shaped and changed our society and culture forever. After several witnesses spotted seeing flying saucers over Roswell, New Mexico on July 8, 1947, suspicions were raised after Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) public information officer Walter Haut announced that a “flying disk” had been recovered on a ranch near Roswell in a press release. Witnesses at site also claim to have seen alien bodies.

These bodies are said to have been taken into top secret research laboratories where they were studied and stored away for future query. Also under question is the alien craft, which many suspect were taken in by the military, and used for their advanced technologies which helped jet us forward into the Space Age.

While the U.S. government has continued to deny the claims (an official 1997 report Case Closed: Final Report on the Roswell Crash attempted to close the case), millions of people still find truth in the dozens of witnesses who have come forward since, claiming to have seen the fragments of another world.

Since then flying saucers and aliens like those described by witnesses have flooded public consciousness and become a mainstay of popular society. And while the government might deny the existence of aliens at Roswell, they sure were interested in the existence of U.F.O.’s, which they documented heavily in the files of Project Blue Book which was shut down in January 1970, and  is now open to public inspection.

We might never know in our lifetime, but the way things are going, I wouldn’t be surprised if we did!

Fingers crossed.

Until next time,

Dozens of inappropriate, odd, and down right bizarre suggestions can be found looking through vintage publications; most of which would never EVER make it to the pages of a magazine or catalog today.

BURGER GIRL WANTS YOU…

If you have never heard of Benjamin Dukhan then please let me introduce you to one of fashion’s most intelligible of beings. His face has helped redefine the image of the male model, whom had always been young, spry, and smooth. While he is both young and spry, it is his scruffy hairiness that has helped make a mark for the man on the mainstream.

With a beard like Zeus, Benjamin has become a one-of-a-kind life force in the industry, walking for some of the biggest names out there, and bringing a manly elegance to each new look he dons. He has also shown up on The Eye of Faith in the past in our story entitled “My Demon Brother” walking one of his best looks in the Jean Paul Gaultier FW 2011 collection.

As well as his continuing stint as one of fashion’s staple faces on the catwalk, Benjamin Dukhan’s exciting multi-disciplinary background has taken him, and the industry, to new and unseen heights.

Beginning his career as a dancer, Benjamin has been able to fuse his love for movement with his unlikely chameleon nature in a continuing performance art piece called BURGER GIRL. As much an art piece as some sort of alter-ego or secret persona, the videos Dukhan and his collaborators have produced give rise to thousands of new notions of what it means to perform in front of a camera.

Not only is Benjamin pushing the bounds of what it means to be a “super model”, but he is also pushing the bounds of dance, art, video, music, and fashion to a world where each can see each other off and amalgamate into a singular dynamic art form.

So where do you come in?

Benjamin needs the help of as many people as he can to fund his latest BURGER GIRL project. Donated funds will go towards the production of his 10th and final video, “Vogue Positive” which will be featured on the official site, as well as on Youtube, and will most likely tour the European underground scene.

There are only four days left to make a contribution, so please check it out.

+You can make your donation here. +

Also make sure to check out his site to watch more original BURGER GIRL videos.

Benjamin is graciously awarding contributors with gifts according to the size of the donation, so best to give generously. It’s not everyday that a high fashion supermodel needs your help, so let’s pull ourselves together and do what we can for the sake of fashion, the sake of art, and getting these worlds closer and closer together!

Sincerely,

{theEye}

Commercial Break: I Married A Witch (1942)

Well well well, Halloweens nearly here.  Just around the corner!  And we feel as if we cannot get ahead on posting all the spooky ghoulish goodies that we’d love to bring to our readers.  Today we renounce the horror of Halloween and reflect on a time back in the 1940s, we know our retro readers will enjoy.

Starring a vivacious Veronica Lake as Jennifer, a 15th century Witch, brought into the present time with her father Daniel.  Both were imprisoned in a tree until a bolt of lightning freed the pair.  In an effort to exact revenge, Jennifer sets out in a diabolical plan to find the ancestors of the bigots who burnt her and her father centuries before.

High-jinks ensue in this romantic comedy, as Jennifer tracks down the puritan Jonathan Wooley (played by Fredric March), who is unhappily engaged at present.  The ambitious witch crafts a plan to steal and marry the man,  but the only way she can entice him to her eccentric ways is by using a Love Potion.

Tensions mounted on the set, and Lake had a rebellious steak.  Making a reputation for herself as being difficult to work with, sneaking weight’s under her dress when March was scripted to effortlessly carry her away.  And antics such as wedging her heel into the leading actors foot off camera to throw off her co-star.  Lake would fade into obscurity as the pictures evolved in the coming years, leaving behind a legacy of luscious side swept blonde hair, and a notorious attitude of a true Witch.
