{MUSIC MINUTE – Super Summer Jams Edition } Dennis Wilson’s “RIVER SONG”

denniswilsonchristinemcvie

A new film entitled “Love & Mercy” has just been released starring Paul Dano as Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson. And today on “The View”, Brian Wilson admitted he has never once been surfing in his entire life!

Indeed, it was his bad ass boy brother Dennis who served as the true muse behind the vibe that would make The Beach Boys sore to meteoric heights, and ultimate icon status. But little do most people know that Dennis Wilson was a righteous pioneer of music in his own right!

In 1977 he released “Pacific Ocean Blue” which featured this – an all-time ultimate summer song entitled “River Song”, which showcases Dennis’ unique musical stylings and unending talent.

Sadly, Dennis Wilson would be found dead in the Marina Del Rey on December 28, 1983. To read more on this idol of style and life be sure to read our E.O.F. STYLE IDOL: Dennis Wilson {THE BAD BEACH BOY} for tons of content to muse and conjure the spirit!

Music Minute: “Feel Flows” by The Beach Boys

“Feel Flows” all day and night long with this track from The Beach Boys…

Every time it plays, we like to let the waves take over and go for the ride. Their smooth harmony is definitely the secret remedy to all your cares and worries.

Released in 1971 with their album Surf’s Up, the song was featured in the 1972 surf documentary “5 Summer Stories”, which would lead to the second-coming of the Surf Movie (The first being the ever iconic “Endless Summer” whose poster has become an ever popular go-to graphic). Many fans consider it “one of the best surf films ever made”.

Here’s a short Prologue for the film provided by The Surf Shop!

The Surf-Film genre is still an ever-popular genre today, with a quickly growing audience that loves to embrace the tide, the beauty of nature, and above-all adventure! In fact, the influence of nostalgia for surfing day past can be seen in many of the industry’s top brand names.

Who can blame them? The allure of water and the ocean is about as old as time itself. Not to mention, it’s a great way to play off of time-tested classics, and create something new!

Vintage Surf Style: E.O.F. Remembers Annette Funicello . . .

Annette funicello muscle beach party

This week we were saddened to learn about the passing of 1960s surf film star and legend, Annette Funicello. Before Victoria Justice, Miley Cyrus, and even Britney Spears there was Annette Funicello who epitomized teen stardom throughout the 1950s and 60s.

Growing up in public is especially hard sometimes . . .

Born October 22, 1942, Annette Funicello is best known as a mouseketeer on “The Mickey Mouse Club”, and rising to teen stardom alongside pal Frankie Avalon (check out “Teen Idol Worship“)in a series of popular beach movies including Beach Party (1963), Muscle Beach Party (1964), Bikini Beach (1964), Pajama Party (1964), Beach Blanket Bingo (1965) and How to Stuff a Wild Bikini (1965). These films would help create that mythic ideal of that 1960s surf rock beach paradise you are always dreaming of . . .

The Teen Dream Queen rocked it out in a bikini with a surf board surrounded by musclebound gods to become an icon of the surf lifestyle that the entire globe looked and aspired to. Granted, it was a more wholesome version of real California surf culture, it is still a cornerstone of popular culture to this day.

We love her sexy and sassy looks, and wanted to remember her with a gallery of some of our favourite looks and images of this surf style legend. Annette Funicello passed away at age 70 on April 8, 2013.

Hunter S. Thompson {circa 1960s} at his typewriter with pipe and wicked graphic surf shorts!

Greetings friends, fans, and followers . . .

The holiday season has come and gone, and we are back to the writing desk, much like our good friend Hunter S. Thompson up there. We thought this was a great image to welcome ourselves back on, as it reminds us all that style is something we take everywhere we go; It is a reflection, a representation, of one’s own unique persona.

Even putting himself up to the grind and working away, a man like Hunter S. Thompson (and like so many other great writers) only needs to rely on his supernatural sensibility of self to carry him through the long hours of the day. While I’m sure he never envisioned himself as a style guru of any sort, this man is looked at time and time again for his bad ass All-American jamboree of pattern and real casual cool.

Myths and legends die hard in America. We love them for the extra dimension they provide, the illusion of near-infinite possibility to erase the narrow confines of most men’s reality. Weird heroes and mould-breaking champions exist as living proff to those who need it that the tyranny of “the rat race” is not yet final.

-Hunter S. Thompson

All it takes is letting go a little . . .

We hope to help you with these, and other dilemmas and mysteries of style and self in the coming New Year! Just keep it cool, OK?!

This year we hope to divulge in more rebel realities, playboy prophecies, magic America, gothic nuances, and many more vintage memories and musings informing and quickly building tomorrow’s fashion landscape . . .

With the help of {theEye} there’s no going wrong (and no going back, for that matter)!

See you shortly. . .

Most Sincerely,
