Baby, Let’s Cruise Away From Here. . . GUCCI Men’s Cruise 2017

Gucci Cruise 2017 at Westminster Abbey, London {May, 2016}

“I chose Westminster Abbey because everyone has this idea of London being cool, but for me the history is what’s really cool.”

Check out this righteous collection of photographs from Nick Waplington of the menswear in Alessandro Michele’s triumphant 2017 Cruise collection for GUCCI making another landmark in style for the classic Italian high fashion brand, and what is being known as another groundbreaker in the area of men’s fashion and style.

The inspirations are vast and varied ( spot turn of the century collegiate vibes, 80s punks, 90s street couture, 1920s leisurewear, 70s bohemian playboys, 50s varsity jocks,  19th century naturalists, Edo Japan, and more ), and its this exciting eclecticism that is putting Michele at the forefront of truly changing the way we look at specifically men’s fashion, which for the most part has become a sea of black, beige, and boring.

Our motto has always been ‘more is more’, and we’re happy to have such a prestigious like mind in our corner on the matter. If you are unfamiliar with the new GUCCI vibe, this collection of portraits will not only be getting you a taste, but you will truly understand what all the buzz is about. Taken almost portrait style, the loud and eccentric looks are jarringly juxtaposed against the backdrop of a stately English country home like a tribe of wanderlusting young men who had just conquered the Old World and are setting forth establishing the New.

This is a new voice, yes; and yet, much of what we see isn’t necessarily “new” in any way, in fact, as we pointed out with the mass of inspirations colliding in this collection, its a true example of taking from the {past} to invigorate the {present} and thus poising change for the {future} …

“The men’s wardrobe is like a ritual and I am fascinated by it and its codes. The codes are not to be cancelled, they have to be reinvented and repositioned in a different fresco. There is the part of formalwear which I consider like the father of all the different styles. There are some punk pieces which are the most romantic part of the collection. When you are punk you are romantic, because you want to break the rules. And then there is the preppy/street part which recalls college-wear and is thought for more relaxed moments. Each of these parts has its own codes and, as always, I enjoyed putting a sort of confusion among the different codes and languages.”

-Alessandro Michele {source}

We have always felt like fashion and style is like a secret society full of codes and rules and symbols that all add up to create greater meaning . . . like geomancy, the way you mix and match elements have different suggestions and powers. If you are wise, you can use these powers to your advantage in your day-to-day, and even make great strides in following your path to destiny.

Through Alessandro Michele’s meticulous orchestration, and continuing success in the fashion industry, be sure to check out the change that is ready to explode in our everyday! Just look around . . .

After looking through the photographs, I’m sure you will notice the sense of individualism achieved in this collection which is a funny thing to say, when a collection is usually thought of as a wholly distinct and cohesive mass, however, what Michele knows is that there will be dozens of different men who in their daily lives belong to whichever tribe  (suits, shorts, bohos, rock n rollers, geeks, streets, etc.) and having such an eclectic array provides the greatest cohesion amongst men.

Also, note the artisanal quality of each piece. This not the same GUCCI that you find horrible knock-offs of in Chinatown . . . these are truly thought out works of art. From the embroidery, to the hand painting, to the beading, bleaching, patchwork, knitwear; each piece has a true artist quality that renders the price tags not even as devastating when you think of the work involved, as well as the increasing value throughout time.

Even with all the embellishment, at the end of the day you are looking at classic and timeless pieces. If you check out our {SHOP} you can find a lot of style-wise pieces that can help you achieve the look!

Music Minute: “My Only Love” by Roxy Music

roxy music- immortal style idols

These guys are legends, and their music echoes like the voice of a lost memory. Dreams, and fantasy, illusion, and grandeur – these are all summoned by their music. Formed in 1971, Roxy Music lives on today as one of the most popular bands there have ever been, and were even honoured by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the “Immortal” in a list of their 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

We’d have to go ahead, and add them to our Best-Dressed Artists of All Time list with their wild nod to the past injected with the blinding buzz of Glam Rock England. We included a few pictures of these Idols, and were hoping the song be a great way to settle down into the night.

And what do you know? Looks like foil metallics and leopard print are right on their way back, so watch out! Also green suits, mysteriously enough . . .

Hope you enjoy.

{STYLE-WISE} Do it Right! Vintage Dress the Part – Kurt Cobain’s “Heart Shaped Box”

She eyes me like a Pisces when I am weak . . .

This past September marked the 20th Anniversary of Nirvana’s stellar, and ultimately last, music video “Heart Shaped Box”. Directed by Anton Corbijn, the video is a surreal and disturbing vision of death and disease. It is a colourful combination of the familiar and the insane which make this video a great one.

  • KURT COBAIN: “Actually, “Heart-Shaped Box’ might’ve been one of my pieces of poems. I know a lot of the words to that song are from poems. It’s just another of those songs that are pretty much wordplay. I didn’t have any specific idea.”

  • Melody Maker: So they’re not intended to mean anything?

  • KURT COBAIN: “No. And the pieces of poetry are taken from poems that don’t usually have meaning in the first place. They were cut-ups themselves. And often I’ll have to obscure the pieces I take to make them fit in the song, so they’re not even true pieces of poem. But this is the first record where I’ve written at least a couple of songs thematically. Scentless Apprentice’ is one, and ‘Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle’ is about her, (Frances Farmer) about the way she was exploited in her life.”

  • So there ya have it kids. I know Courtney wants the world to think “Heart Shaped Box” was about her vag but according to Kurt Cobain, it wasn’t.

Not only are the visuals striking (same goes to the enchanting lyrics), so is the fashion, which represents the epitome of Grunge style at its most wild and excessive.

While we often think of Kurt Cobain in his signature wooly cardigans, and almost Grandpa gone bad style; here Cobain has embraced his rockstar qualities and ventures to a more glam version of the Grunge style that even veers into the world of high fashion.

His iconic metallic silver button down shirt he wears throughout the video (overtop a signature Cobain black and white stripe shirt) was in fact provided by the equally iconic Jean Paul Gaultier, who dressed the band for the video. Gaultier was at the height of his unique take of Grunge style that was overtaking the industry throughout the late 80s and early 90s, so this combination of the two (Gaultier & Cobain) is nothing except magical.

Since this tidbit had been revealed to us during the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit a few years ago in Montreal, the idea of this sort of piece has been branded in our memory as a must-have stand out piece for our closet. It took many years, but we found one, and every time it is adorned within an outfit it is a bonafide hit.

We thought we might never find another one, but alas, our luck has been on high as of late, and we found perhaps even a better representation of this high fashion glam grunge ideal of a metallic silver foil shirt in a remarkable piece by Marc Alan that is straight out of the period and looking for a new home!

Check it out, and maybe it’s for you. The right one will come along. They always do . . .

Rebel Yell with a Touch of Evil: Miharayasuhiro Men S/S13

We are moved by the beautiful designs coming from Miharayasuhiro. Inspired by David Lynch’s “Wild at Heart” and the python jacket Nicolas Cage wore in the film, Mihara Yasuhiro’s appealingly offbeat collection is having the fashion crowd singing praises. And here @TheEyeOfFaith, we are feeling this!

Rockabilly Preppy Goth dudes splashed in paint, some head to toe, made for a truly easy-chic vibe with an edge normally seen with Links and Chains in Nashville. We saw Hairdo’s that have got us combing our hair differently. We love love love the collection overall. Lots of variety with some stark-hard subtly.

We bring you a series of backstage shots by Dirk Alexander from Models.com.  We can envision ourselves sliding into any one of these looks.  Cool simple colour story, lots of beige and white’s mixed with leather’s and black mesh.  A James Dean Rebel red Members Only jacket sets the tone for the whole collection.  We are feeling a Fight Club feel for 2013 with the forever stylish Python.  This is a collection that for SURE stands out this season.
