The Eye of Faith is back for Supercrawl 2016!

output_dmqPyB

That’s right friends and followers!

We are so psyched to be back presenting for Supercrawl 2016 alongside the city’s best designers of original clothing. Last year not only did we have our runway show, but we also presented a two hour Vintage Showcase the following day, so this year we are so thrilled to only have our runway show to master.

This year, our collection was inspired by TAROT, and we can’t spill too much, but we are definitely sure that we have more than a few show stoppers to give all you fashion lovers the most bang for your buck.

We are also pumped to showcase some original menswear in the collection this year, as well as some conceptual looks that incorporate unconventional materials. Being proponents of vintage clothing, we also thought it would be interesting to use primarily vintage fabrics to create our looks!

This year, the fashion tents are situated at James St. N and Murray.

Our show begins

 Saturday, September 10 @ 3: 45 SHARP.

Fashion, Art, and Music – the most powerful trifecta – all in one slamming event taking over downtown Hamilton: SUPERCRAWL!!!

Don’t miss out! Grab a seat and enjoy the show!!!

Until we meet again,

{Music Minute} Black Sabbath’s “Planet Caravan”

In the spirit of the dunes we thought this timeless classic could definitely coincide. . .

This is an ode to Black Sabbath, the mystical heavy blues rockers from Birmingham who knew just the way to make their music crawl.

With the use of the occult and horror-inspired lyrics, and one-of-a-kind 1970s rock ‘n’ roll bohemian swag, we are definitely feeling a brotherhood with this unique quartet!

Pictures loaded by Graham Young, Birmingham Mail. The first ever picture taken of Black Sabbath taken in 1968 of Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, on a bank of grass close to Portland Road, Edgbaston. One hundred prints have been made at £495 each. Jim Simpson says: "If any one band can claim to be the originators of Heavy Metal, then that band is Black Sabbath. Strangely, Heavy Metal was not a term used in those days, though Sabbath certainly prided themselves on being heavier than any of their so-called rivals. In fact, their early publicity claimed, “Black Sabbath, the Heaviest Band Around. Makes Led Zeppelin sound like a kindergarten house band.” Quite how the Sabs changed from being a perfectly good blues band into the musical phenomenon that we all know and love is shrouded in mystery. It all started with Geezer Butler who contributed the band’s name as well as many of the songs. Their music developed naturally from then and it’s hard to indentify exactly what directly preceded it. Hendrix, yes, to a limited extent, but that only partly explains it. Whatever, Black Sabbath are THE Birmingham Rock Band. Ask yourself this. Who is the world’s most famous Brummie? Without doubt, it’s Ozzy. {PHOTOBLAST} My Demon Brother . . .

“Fear not at all; fear neither men nor Fates, nor gods, nor anything. Money fear not, nor laughter of the folk folly, nor any other power in heaven or upon the earth or under the earth. “

[Book of the Law: Chapter 2, Line 53]

Seems like the invocation went well last night.

Our demon brother walks the Earth, tempting the weak at heart and empowering the brave. We wanted to bring this PHOTOBLAST back to the hermetic roots of our wayward journey, and raise the demon brother in us all.

 n. De-mon [dmn]

1. an evil supernatural being; a devil.

2. A persistently tormenting person, force, or passion.

3. One who is extremely zealous, skillful, or diligent.

4. Genius.

The word ‘demon’ has quite an interesting origin in the realm of man. Before gathering itself as a symbol of supernatural evil, the word came from the Greek , Daemon. The wise Plato invested great interest in these mysterious spirits.  These metaphysical beings, who held a state between God and Mortal were “interpreting and transporting human things to the gods and divine things to men; entreaties and sacrifices from below, and ordinances and requitals from above…”

Plato believed that allotted to every man and woman, a daemon would distribute destinies and wisdom to us all. Call it, a conscience of man. Plato would eventually have charges laid against him for “”corrupting the young, and by not believing in the gods in whom the city believes, but in other daimonia that are novel.”

“Man tells his aspiration in his God; but in his demon he shows his depth of experience.”

-Margaret Fuller

So, dare not fear your demon brother, my friends, for there is indeed a voice that binds man in the form of the night.  If we are all things at once, infinite, a journey to the dark is a quest to find your heart. For wrestling in the soul of man is a struggle bigger than that of you or I.

There is mythical genius in all of us, and what better way to display your gifts of knowledge than with the very threads you wear.  The struggle is to find pride in your sacred identity, whatever that it may be.  So don’t get mad if you find your own demon brother giving you tips on a star-filled night. He might just know a thing or two.

E.O.F. Presents + THE SACRED ORDER OF THE GOLDEN DAWN +

sacred order 1

 AMINUS FACIT NOBILEM.

{“The Spirit Makes The Human Noble.”}

Getting ready for school or work, you might have noticed that day by day you are submitting to any number of rituals. Whether it’s washing your face or prepping for your day at the mirror, all these little things add up to make the recipe for the spell that will hopefully get you through the day. . .

This is a tradition as old as time itself. It seems so simple at first, almost unnoticeable if you haven’t thought about it, but our daily routines and the simple act of getting ready for the day is as powerful as any incantation.

sacred order 6

Focus is key, as you don’t want to invoke the wrong spirit for the day.  But if you are able to summon from deep within that one spirit that can transform you, and in turn, how you are perceived by the world, then you have a real chance of winning. But, making that metamorphosis is something only a genuine and true individual can truly take on.

For centuries, hundreds, maybe thousands, of secret societies have existed looking to possess the power of these sacred secret spirits. From the mysteries of Egypt and Ancient Greece, to Yeats’ and Crowley’s “Golden Dawn”, to the secret dormitories of the Ivy League, members of certain sacred orders have endured through the ages and kept alive this powerful knowledge.

The most powerful spirit they hope to set free is that of the ‘Rebel‘. The most courageous and strong of any being. The ‘Rebel’ is fearless and has been able to survive with its’ strong will, determination, and unwillingness to submit to anyone, or anything.

Sacred Order 10

“The mystery religions were instituted in order to protect the marvels of the commonplace from those who would devalue them.”

                      {Peter Redgrove, “The Black Goddess and the Unseen Real”.}

Long ago, high up in the sky a rebel band of Angels existed, unhappy with their destiny. Instead of sitting pretty playing harps and twirling their fingers through their hair, they followed their leader, the bold Lucifer, and leaped down from the sky and into the river Styx where they still reside to this day, invulnerable to the world, and ready to play as they please . . .

Invoking the rebel spirit is one of the things we do best here at The Eye, and possessing oneself with the invulnerability of the River Styx will without a doubt work in your favor, no matter the circumstance. Who wants to be vulnerable anyway? Instead, own your destiny, and write a place in history for yourself.

We have explored the history of these sacred orders and secret societies and have been entranced by this tradition of rebellion. The deeper you begin to look, the deeper you can understand that we are in fact living in a {Rebel Society}.

+THE SACRED ORDER OF THE GOLDEN DAWN+ is about the invocation of this ‘Rebel’ Spirit, and the traditions of spreading this magical word, and the power imparted onto the individual, once freed from a life of waiting. The answers are all around us, and only the chosen shall see them.

sacred order 18

There is a warning, however, in summoning the ‘Rebel’ to pervade the soul: always remember that the ‘Rebel’ spirit doesn’t work for anyone, and once summoned, there is no guarantees how long they might want to stay, or the darkness they might uncover once you are shown the light.

Do you think you have what it takes to invoke the ‘Rebel’ spirit? If so, take a ride with   The Eye of Faith and lets aim for Styx!

{MUSIC MINUTE} “Ouija Board, Ouija Board” by MORRISSEY

Vintage Morrissey and his typewriter - style and mens fashion - the eye of faith

There’s a saying that goes:  “You either have it, or you don’t”.

And although, most people these days would love to believe they have it, there is definitely one person you can look back on and say they did “have it”, and equally today too, we are still singing their praises – MORRISSEY.

That sweet croon, and wicked wild hair-do, not to mention that beautiful romantic new wave styling he was always sporting. Striped and houndstooth blazers were never a challenge. Always a little stripped down and casual, that’s the rockstar in him.

Hordes of Mexican teens have adopted him as their Jesus, and Carrie Bradshaw’s little sister has a hamster named MORRISSEY on “The Carrie Diaries”. He’s definitely not one of those forgotten ones.

Young Morrissey -Vintage Mens Fashion Style- the eye of faith

We came across this lovely wonder, and decided immediately to make it our latest {MUSIC MINUTE}. If you’ve never heard it, you might be expecting something a little creepy from the title, but the song gives a lot more love and tenderness than you might ever expect from a song called “Ouija Board, Ouija Board”.

The record needle is currently hovering over anything and everything with an occult theme, so whether it was today, or twenty years ago, this song is destined to be a, dare I say it, cult classic.

Please enjoy this very special {MUSIC MINUTE}!

Don’t be Deceived! Devils Wake, Walk, and Bite (too) !!! {Open 24 Hours}

Was this man genuinely exorcising wayward evil spirits from this young woman in the Philippines, or is this an elaborate missionary hoax? This photograph was taken from a souvenir pictorial to the film “Bitten by Devils” produced by the ordained Evangelist minister, Lester Sumrall.

Lester was born in New Orleans on February 5, 1913, and after winning a battle with tuberculosis, he was sure of his true calling. Sumrall was continuing in the traditions of his mentors Smith Wigglesworth, and Alfred Howard Carter– both prominent pioneering heroes of the Pentecostal faith who served as mentor to the young Southerner with loads of charisma.

The boy knew how to talk, and was well versed in the Gospels. He embodied a passion unseen by most people. But above all, Lester had a sense of style. His New Orleans upbringing would teach him to add a little flair, and embrace the power of tailoring, and the finest suits. Throw in some slick hair, and you’re bound to create a following. And indeed, he would.

Young Lester Sumrall (Circa. 1930s) {Art by The Eye of Faith}

In the 1950s, Sumrall had travelled to the Philippines to search for demons trapped in the body of a young woman. Lucky enough, they would find a “comely Visayan maiden whose experiences in prison triggered medico-religious investigations and front-page news.”

As you can see from the list of books above, Lester’s fascination with the dark side would be a priority for most of his life. Whether true or false, many of Sumrall’s stories are terrifying to this day.  “The Invisible Boy” tells of a young Filipino boy tormented by ‘alien entities’.

Cornelio and a friend were walking home one afternoon cutting across a large open space. Suddenly Cornelio stopped. His eyes were bulging out of their sockets. He was pointing ahead. He said: ‘See the girl in a long white dress? She is beautiful. She is calling me’. Cornelio left his friend and walked forward. Suddenly his friend saw Cornelio disappear from sight.

The Invisible Boy, Lester Sumrall

Creepy stuff, alright.

It makes you wonder why someone (an ordained minister) would make something like this up. There is a long history of church inaccuracies when it comes to the documentation of fact from fiction, so naturally we resist. But in all actuality, perhaps the young boy from New Orleans really was on to something.

Lester Sumrall would take his mission one step further forming The Lester Sumrall Evangelical Association {LeSEA} in 1957.  By 1968 LeSEA would launch WHME-TV, followed by WHMB-TV serving the Southern United States as the first 24-hour Christian television station. With all his showbiz charm and charisma, it is not surprising.

However, the question remains… Do You believe in The Devil? or Demons? Spirits? Ghosts? Were the stories he wrote about and portrayed in films actually real? Can they attack and make us disappear into thin air? Lester Sumrall sure thought so, and made an entire life exploring the unknown.

Don’t be deceived! Perhaps this calls for some reading of our good friend Ralph Hart. Or should I say, Reverend. Seems like he has some advice on the subject. All you need to do is ask yourself one thing:

Library books are fun. Found this one tucked away in that dusty corner. Why would that be?

Hope you enjoyed!
