OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Rare Marlon Brando Screen Test for “Rebel Without a Cause” !

My Man Marlon

Just like our OUT OF THIS WORLD! look back at Buddy Holly goofing off with his friends on Super 8 mm, this is another rare intimate moment with another world-class rebel star.

Actually, before Buddy Holly, and even James Dean himself, Marlon was making a name for himself as a bad boy of the stage and screen. Originating the role of Stanley Kowalski in Tennesse Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire” at just 23, he paved the way for method acting as the preferred style of acting in Hollywood throughout the 1950s with one electrifying performance after another. His appearance in the screen version would also see sales in men’s undershirts rise extraordinarily, making way for the modern T-shirt we are so used to in our everyday. We are looking forward to looking at more of Marlon Brando’s unique stamp on style, but in the meantime wanted to bring to you this lost moment and memory of what might have been. The actual screen test Marlon Brando performed to audition in the role that would change society forever, as the lead in “Rebel Without a Cause” (which, of course, was passed on to new rising star James Dean).

Marlon seems to engross himself in the role, and plays on his good looks and charm with ease. Perhaps, he was too handsome for the part in the end, and director Nicholas Ray needed someone fresher and new to the scene. James Dean definitely had that mumbly, vulnerable, dorkish quality about him, that Marlon would just never possess. And like they say, some things are just meant to be.

He would go on to make plenty more memorable parts in his life time, as well as one of the lucky actors to have won two Academy Awards for Best Actor. Thanks to the graces of modern technology we can glimpse at this long lost memory today, and submit to the land of might have been.

The guy’s got some chops, you have to admit!

Until next time,

BURGER GIRL WANTS YOU…

If you have never heard of Benjamin Dukhan then please let me introduce you to one of fashion’s most intelligible of beings. His face has helped redefine the image of the male model, whom had always been young, spry, and smooth. While he is both young and spry, it is his scruffy hairiness that has helped make a mark for the man on the mainstream.

With a beard like Zeus, Benjamin has become a one-of-a-kind life force in the industry, walking for some of the biggest names out there, and bringing a manly elegance to each new look he dons. He has also shown up on The Eye of Faith in the past in our story entitled “My Demon Brother” walking one of his best looks in the Jean Paul Gaultier FW 2011 collection.

As well as his continuing stint as one of fashion’s staple faces on the catwalk, Benjamin Dukhan’s exciting multi-disciplinary background has taken him, and the industry, to new and unseen heights.

Beginning his career as a dancer, Benjamin has been able to fuse his love for movement with his unlikely chameleon nature in a continuing performance art piece called BURGER GIRL. As much an art piece as some sort of alter-ego or secret persona, the videos Dukhan and his collaborators have produced give rise to thousands of new notions of what it means to perform in front of a camera.

Not only is Benjamin pushing the bounds of what it means to be a “super model”, but he is also pushing the bounds of dance, art, video, music, and fashion to a world where each can see each other off and amalgamate into a singular dynamic art form.

So where do you come in?

Benjamin needs the help of as many people as he can to fund his latest BURGER GIRL project. Donated funds will go towards the production of his 10th and final video, “Vogue Positive” which will be featured on the official site, as well as on Youtube, and will most likely tour the European underground scene.

There are only four days left to make a contribution, so please check it out.

+You can make your donation here. +

Also make sure to check out his site to watch more original BURGER GIRL videos.

Benjamin is graciously awarding contributors with gifts according to the size of the donation, so best to give generously. It’s not everyday that a high fashion supermodel needs your help, so let’s pull ourselves together and do what we can for the sake of fashion, the sake of art, and getting these worlds closer and closer together!

Sincerely,

{theEye}

” . . . Mommy, I Think Daddy is Possessed ! ! ! “

I’ve been saving this photo for some time now…waiting for the perfect moment to share. Now that it’s so close to Halloween, what better time to display this very curious creature…

As you might know, we have a huge collection of vintage photographs that we have archived here at The Eye of Faith – each one possessing a mysteriously lingering quality that we just can’t put our finger on.

This one here is no exception. Everything about it is pure Eye of Faith! Look at this classic family portrait set up in their very own living room. A puzzle has been laid out on the coffee table and the entire family has gathered. The photographer is unknown, but lucky for them they have laid witness to the father’s strange transformation….

And while everybody in the photograph is ready with their best All-American smile, the eldest son can’t hide his fear knowing –

“I THINK MY DAD IS POSSESSED!!!”

+

We don’t know what kind of gore or paranormal experiences may have ensued after the camera clicked, but like many of these old photographs they leave silent clues and messages from beyond as to the lives of the people in them…

This one, only had their names:

Whether or not these individuals are out there still is beyond me…but we can at least appreciate this photograph for what it may or may not be, and with Halloween on our hands we can’t help but haunt our own imagination!

{My Father, My Devil, My Demon, My Life, My Dreams, My Steadfast Nightmares…}

+

That wasn’t the only snapshot we had in our possession portraying haunted men possessed by demonic forces.

The father is the leader of the home, but in these cases, the Devil surely seems to have crept his way through the cracks and into the man you thought you trusted most.

So if you see a shadow come across his face, look into his eyes and hope to God you can save his fragile mortal life. Make sure you announce it to the house, so everyone can take cover. Don’t be afraid to scream it:

+

“I THINK DAD IS POSSESSED!”

+

Don’t be too afraid if this happens….after all, they’re just earth bound spirits trying to attach themselves to something tangible, and in this case it’s unfortunately your Dad. According to therapist, Dr. Edith Fiore, author of The Unquiet Dead, the simplest thing to do is tell the unfriendly spirit to leave immediately!

“Tell him he is harming himself and the person he is possessing.

To encourage the spirit to leave Earth you must tell him his loved ones are waiting for him. Reassure him that when he’s in the hereafter he will be in a perfect body, not a crippled or aged one.

Tell him there’s no such thing as hell – that he will have a wonderful, peaceful existence in the afterlife with everything he wants. Then tell him to go in peace with your blessing.”

+

She also states 9 ways to tell if you, yourself, are possessed. They are:

1. Low energy levels

2. Character shifts or mood swings

3. Inner voice or voices speaking to you

4. Impulsive behavior

5. Memory problems

6. Poor concentration

7. Sudden onset of physical problems

8. A sudden onset of anxiety or bouts of depression (especially after hospitalization or any other trauma)

9. Weight gain with no obvious cause

So be on the look out fine fellows and felines of The Faith! There are other world beings out there just waiting for a nice body to become one with….and don’t think Daddy will come running to help you, especially if he’s the one possessed!

Exsúrgat Deus et dissipéntur inimíci ejus: et fúgiant qui odérunt eum a fácie ejus.

Sicut déficit fumus defíciant; sicut fluit cera a fácie ígnis, sic péreant peccatóres a fácie Dei.

{Let God arise and let His enemies be scattered: and let them that hate Him flee from before His Face!
As smoke vanisheth, so let them vanish away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

PSALM 67 – Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

So muster up some courage and take on those Demons yourself! Kick some ass, even if it is your own father! Your Momma will be quick to Thank You!

Until next time,

Music Minute: “Dear God” – XTC (1986)

Whenever we question our own reality and or think about our New Dracula Shades, this is one of the tunes that jumps into our Head’s and gets our toe’s tappin’.  We’re lover’s of the hippie glasses and  penchant for Hats, not to mention overall gentlemanly style of this English Invasion.

Not only is the message frank, but the statements linger and in a sea of pop act’s who sing about drivel, we find it very refreshing to find a group who aren’t afraid to say how they really feel!  Especially here at The Eye of Faith, a rebellious song questioning the existence of God is right up our alley!

From Swindon, England, XTC was active between 1977 and 2005. The band enjoyed some chart success, including the UK and Canadian hits you may recall; “Making Plans for Nigel” (1979) and “Senses Working Overtime” (1982)

First coming together in 1972, the core duo of Andy Partridge (guitars & vocals) and Colin Moulding (bass & vocals) went through many band names. Possible names being The Helium Kidz and Star Park, it wasn’t until 1976 the band settled on the name XTC.

With provoking lyrics like “Did you make disease, and the diamond blue? Did you make
mankind after we made you? And the Devil too!” it’s no wonder this New Wave group stirred up quite the sensation with the God fearing crowd worldwide.

“I won’t believe in heaven and hell. No saints, no sinners, no
devil as well. No pearly gates, no thorny crown. You’re always
letting us humans down. The wars you bring, the babes you
drown. Those lost at sea and never found, and it’s the same the
whole world ’round. The hurt I see helps to compound that
Father, Son and Holy Ghost is just somebody’s unholy hoax,
and if you’re up there you’d perceive that my heart’s here upon
my sleeve. If there’s one thing I don’t believe in

it’s you….”

You’re The Only Fashion Time Traveler!

Can you spot the fashion time traveler in this photograph taken in 1941 at the re-opening of the South Forks Bridge in Gold Bridge, British Columbia?

You wouldn’t be the only who spotted the tall dude on the right sporting an edgy pair of shades, and some sort of graphic-T. In fact, the debate is still on as to whether we have a real life time traveler, sophisticated photo manipulation, or just pure fashion forward realness!

The photo was part of the Official Virtual Museum of Canada, which showcases and exhibits thousands of photographs of everyday life throughout the history of Canada. Featured in the exhibit Their Past Lives Here, the photograph has rallied millions of believers, and was featured as a case study in viral Internet phenomenon at the Museums and the Web 2011 conference.

Further research has confirmed the gentleman’s “graphic T” as a sweater with a sewn-on emblem worn in sports, and the “futuristic” sun glasses would actually be seen only several years later on Barbara Stanwyck in the iconic film-noir – Double Indemnity.

Seems like the town’s quarterback maybe jumped practice to check out the new bridge. It says a lot that this gentleman has become such a phenomenon, really. Whether time traveling or not, either way you look at it, the Time Traveler really goes to show the power of style on our perception.

Time is but a rigid system of organization, and really doesn’t condemn a time period to a strict set of rules as most Costume and Clothing History likes to dictate. Whether 1941 or 2012, the Time Traveler in this photo has stood out so much for his unique one-of-a-kind sensibility and ability to stand out in a crowd. The mainstream moves in one direction, but there will always be individuals doing it their own way.

Here at The Eye of Faith we’re always looking to the past and searching  all over for great vintage finds. The power of style is that it is absolutely timeless, so whenever we feel like going back in time we can dress the part.

You can too! Be your own Fashion Time Traveler, and don’t let your perception of time hold you down. Everyone loves a good story, and who knows, maybe in 70 years you will be going viral too!

Let’s transcend time!

Sincerely,

{[THE EYE]}

E.O.F. Says: Don’t Wear a Mask, Be Yourself

We say it a lot here at The Eye of Faith, but one of the most important lessons you can learn in life is being yourself. It doesn’t matter the trends that are out there, or the way everyone says life should be. Trust me, trends die and originality survives.

We are currently on the hunt for the world’s most exciting fashionistos and fashionistas and the secret knowledge for style they possess! Here at E.O.F. we admire the brave, the daring, the shocking, the extreme, the original, the odd – and everything in between (but of course you know that).

We want to know it all! It’s a mad world out there, but somehow the wild world of style always seems to keep us on track. So if you’re who we’re looking for, or know that person, send us a line at the.eye.of.faith@gmail.com and let us know!

Being on top of your own brand of style can be a major advantage in all aspects of your life. From your love-life to the workplace, the invention of you is a key ingredient to success. If you have any questions regarding finding yourself, check out this article from Everyguyed, as it is sure to answer any questions or problems you might be facing!

Also, check out PostMasculine for some really grounded and honest advice for men from men! This is a great site because it knocks down typical male stereotypes and focuses on developing a more grounded, compassionate, and fearless masculinity. Lots of great reading!

So kids, what’s the moral of the story?

The world is full of so many pressures today, and it seems like everyday the numbers are growing, so the last thing you need is adding yourself to the equation! JUST DO YOU!

Find what makes you happy, and what sets you apart, then just let the freak flags fly. For two thousand years we have been obsessed with being unhappy with ourselves, and it’s about time we start to change that!

Until Next Time,

– The Eye x
