{E.O.F. STYLE IDOL} SUMMONING KEITH RICHARDS

The Eye of Faith Shop Banner Boys

We can’t believe it!

It’s been 5 years since we first began this online source of high quality time traveled vintage clothing and style inspiration we ended up calling The Eye of Faith. November 11, 2011 was a very lucky year to begin a new endeavour according to numerology sources, and with that in mind, and our mind set on success we published our first articles online, and began searching the globe for our unique vintage clothing pieces that make up our collection today.

People often ask us: “What does The Eye of Faith mean?”

The Eye of Faith is definable in many contexts. It is a very ancient symbol that has been burned into our subconscious as humans – Oculata Fides is represented by an eye in the sky watching over us, and us in turn keeping our heart and mind centred on that eye; the eye represents our goals and wants, and as much as we keep our eye on those things fleeting and floating in the sky/mind, our dreams are also watching out for us. Keeping these two aspects symbiotic is the key. Having faith in yourself and your destiny will always turn up fruitful, and the accomplishments we have achieved in just this first five years prove to us that we weren’t off base when conceptualizing our brand and keeping this philosophy a cornerstone of its foundation.

On a basic level we have a keen eye, and faith in our dreams; thus, The Eye of Faith was born!

Everyone talks about rock these days; the problem is they forget about the roll.

-Keith Richards

The Eye of Faith {Vintage} - E.O.F. Style Idol- Keith Richards - KING

So, with that in mind, we have chosen a brand new Style Idol to add to our altars!

A beautiful being brought unto this Earth by Gods of rebellion and bad assness. He has been an ultimate icon for us for many years, and its taken us a while to get the time to truly showcase his style savvy salaciousness.

This is the rock ‘n’ roll life, and you had to invent it as you went along. There was no textbook to say how you operate this machinery.

-Keith Richards

The Eye of Faith {Vintage} - E.O.F. Style Idol- Bad Ass Keith Richards

I mean some doctor told me I had six months to live and I went to their funeral.

-Keith Richards

We are talking Rolling Stones bad boy Keith Richards!

Such style and such un-grace. If you pay close attention, you will notice many musicians and male celebrities have begun heavily taking from this particular style spirit, which means you can too!

The Eye of Faith {Vintage} - E.O.F. Style Idol- Keith Richards w-jagger-pallenberg

If you’re going to kick authority in the teeth, you might as well use both feet.

-Keith Richards

Don’t be shy! Also, boys and girls alike can summon the vibrations of Mr. Richards with ease; the most important aspect you must wear with it is the attitude. If you don’t have it? Fake it ’till you make it!

Nothing is as rad as showing up for your day, and the world clamouring at your style-wise armour.

About myself I have no great illusions. I know what I am. I know what I’m good at. I know what I ain’t.

-Keith Richards

Stay wise and keep your eye on that long winding road ahead of us all.

We have all been faced with some disturbing realities this week.

Lets not let this mess with the strides we have made.

We have always believed in tracing the links between the {PAST} and the {PRESENT} to help shape the {FUTURE}.

And, if the {PAST} is any indication to what is in store, we need to be strong and resilient and not afraid to back down from who we are at our core.

Lost in a Paradise: {WWII Memories} Vintage Vernacular from Another Earth

This is a short clip from Terrence Malick’s “The Thin Red Line” which never ceases to inspire and engage the mind and soul with its thoughtful narration and invigorating visuals that take the viewer through the complex voyage of a soldier to war hidden by the beauty of “paradise“. . .

il_fullxfull.435051704_tga0

It really must have been something to find yourself in a strange new world, another Earth far away from the hometown you left months before. You might never want to leave. You might hope to be left on a deserted island for the rest of your days; left alone by the complications of society.

Malick does a great job at creating this world, and you can get an even cooler glimpse into this world by digging into the world of vintage vernacular.

The Eye of Faith Vintage Snapshot- Hanging Out- Vernacular Photography- WWII History

Ask your grandparents and they probably have vintage snapshots to share with you, or dig through the bins of them at your local Flea Market or antique store. There are treasures to find. These memories of some lost paradise always seem to be like faded remnants of some beautiful black and white dream. . .

Here’s a few to quench your thirst! Soak it up, and bring this lost paradise with you wherever you go.

NEW FOUND IMAGES OF WAR FROM THE EYE OF FAITH!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

WAR? What is it good for?

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Those are the words we have stuck in our head, as of late. With the world in such a dizzy spell of violence and outrage, its hard to believe in a world where war doesn’t exist. But, like the faithful dreamers we are, we will have hope.

War has been around for centuries, and probably since the dawn of man; and yet between the moments of fiery battle and angry destruction, we somehow all find moments of tranquility and joy.

We uncovered a huge collection of beautiful war time photography dating to World War 2 that capture brilliantly and honestly those moments of humanity that really make us the grand creatures we truly are destined to be.

There are smiles, and laughs, and plenty of love and friendship – so much so, that it becomes heartbreaking to imagine the lives of these young boys, and the persistence of wondering whether or not they even survived the tragedies that awaited them.

Here is a look at some of the mysterious moments captured that we now possess to share with the world never to be forgotten.

So, there’s an itty bitty taste of what our collection contains! You’ve seen other unique photos from our collection before, and many of them have been shipped off to museums and/or universities where they will be safely stored and studied for their remarkable sense of composition, as well as place and time.

We are so proud and honoured to have these vintage snapshots as a part of our brand, and I think it is so important for us to keep obtaining these and other photographs, as so these moments will not be lost in time, and the artists, though unknown, can retain some respect and admiration for their spur of the moment creative thought and action!

You’ll probably see a few of these posted on our Etsy {SHOP} over the next few days, so please check it out! Vintage vernacular photographs are one of a kind, and is an affordable way to start collecting art! You can guarantee these pieces will start a million conversations, which is just another aspect that is incredibly enjoyable when collecting vintage snapshot photography.

Not only are they art, but they are a piece of history! So head over now for a peak . . .

{HOW-TO} Vintage Style Inspiration : Jonny Quest !

original hannah barbara - johnny quest and villains sheet- vintage summer style inspiration - adventure cool

It seems Summer is finally here, and with the warming weather we are sure to find ourselves in the midst of more and more adventure as the season rolls on.

Yes indeed, and probably for many, the joys of the Summer heat are sure to incite one or many exciting and unexpected journeys and voyages.

Whether they be jet setting the globe, or simply hopping the hoods of your own town or city, a true adventurer knows that as much as anything that looking good and feeling great on your exciting expedition is as much the fun as averting danger and uncovering sinister ploys against humanity . . .

jonny-quest-full

So we couldn’t NOT visit the ultra-cool, hip, and happening, bad-ass, crime-fighting, science seeking, gun toting, mid-century realness of one we have always so admired- Mr. Jonny Quest.

Jonny starred in his own television series, created by Hannah Barbara (the folks that brought you “The Flinstones” and “The Jetsons“), called “Jonny Quest” which premiered in 1964 and would run for two seasons, ending in 1965.

Jonny Quest Fights Back

The blonde boy in black and blue is indeed an unmatched original, with his sophisticated turban-wearing side-kick Hadji at his side, and his adorable pal Bandit; the two kick-ass kidsters found themselves against everything from ninjas, mummies, and giant robot spiders, to pterodactyls, and knife wielding scuba divers.

With careful wit, precise execution, charm, and a bit of luck they always seem to manage. . .

jonny quest- the family

DW1963_RaceAndVillain

Also along for the ride, and taking part in festivities, are the equally style savvy father of Jonny, Dr. Quest, and his hunky white haired “bodyguard”, Race Bannon. Race is a strong and physical war vet who likes to spend his off-time in a bikini on the beach, while Dr. Quest takes his handsome ginger beard and lab coat inside to research new advancements in engineering, chemistry, and physics.

Race Bannon on the beach

They make a great couple, if you ask me. And they take such great care of the kids (when they’re not putting them plain into the face of danger). . .

But, apart from the bizarre family dynamics described above, there’s no doubting that Jonny Quest has what it takes to be a bold and sophisticated taste-maker of today and tomorrow with his impeccably simple and classic get-up; one that can easily be recreated for yourself!

CHECK IT OUT!

jonny quest vintage style - t by alexander wang chunky knit turtleneck from opening ceremony-1

Though, there are plenty of options out there, the one that stood out for us was this Chunky Wool Knit Turtleneck by T BY ALEXANDER WANG ($265), because of its thicker knit that adds a bit more to the number. It doesn’t have to cling to your body. A comfortable and relaxed fit is best, especially in the summer. {source: OPENING CEREMONY}

bellfield cabrera 5pkt jean- top man

For the pants, we wanted to stay as close to Jonny’s light-blue washed denim look he has in the cartoon. With all the adventures he has been on, we figured this washed out and distressed look works great for achieving that true adventure spirit. We think we found the perfect pair here from Topman – The Bellfield Cabrera 5-Pocket Jean (£40.00).

5 Pockets are perfect for storing skeleton keys, pencils, chewing gum, notepads, compasses, anecdotes, pocket knives – all those things young adventurers would need for a good day of adventuring. Roll up the cuffs to stay truest to our vintage inspiration.

Mens Original Champion White Keds 1

And last but not least, the shoes. Looks like our Jonny Quest look is almost complete! But not before we pick out the perfect pair of white sneakers to round out the look. Since Keds are so classic, and really became popular around Jonny’s time (the early 1960s), I can just picture Jonny kicking up his heels and running straight from whatever was chasing him in a pair of these puppies. They are always super affordable, durable, and timeless.

We went for the classic Keds Men’s Champion Originals in White ($45), because that’s just how our inspiration, Jonny Quest would do it.

And that’s it! It was that easy. Now, the adventuring can begin, and vintage style can yet again win! ! !

If it aint broke, don’t fix it, they always say. The same thing goes for style. When we look back to the past at a great thing like Jonny Quest, we can’t help but let our style motors run on overdrive at the potential for greatness today with some of their amazing midcentury atomic takes on classic American sportswear and utilitarianism.

Everything about the cartoon was groundbreaking for the time, so in our heart we find ourselves beating to that same rebel beat, and wanting to keep this heritage alive and well. The graphic nature of the cartoon made for a revolutionary look on the screen (jet black was rarely used and never as heavily as before “Jonny Quest“, and the uber jazzy soundtrack was also another selling point towards a radical and refined new take on the adventure genre.

No doubt, a viewer could find new ideas and stories to tantalize and spark the imagination each and every time they watched the show, but very rarely are the characters’ unique and sophisticated sense of style brought to the forefront in this way.

That’s why we thought it important to see out this vintage style inspiration, the Jonny Quest way.

Lest we forget!

The Mysterious Case of the Handsome Time Travelling Hipster Dude . . .

Can you spot the fashion time traveler in this photograph taken in 1941 at the re-opening of the South Forks Bridge in Gold Bridge, British Columbia?

You wouldn’t be the only who spotted the tall dude on the right sporting an edgy pair of shades, and some sort of graphic-T. In fact, the debate is still on as to whether we have a real life time traveler, sophisticated photo manipulation, or just pure fashion forward realness!

The photo was part of the Official Virtual Museum of Canada, which showcases and exhibits thousands of photographs of everyday life throughout the history of Canada. Featured in the exhibit Their Past Lives Here, the photograph has rallied millions of believers, and was featured as a case study in viral Internet phenomenon at the Museums and the Web 2011 conference.

Further research has confirmed the gentleman’s “graphic T” as a sweater with a sewn-on emblem worn in sports, and the “futuristic” sun glasses would actually be seen only several years later on Barbara Stanwyck in the iconic film-noir – Double Indemnity.

Seems like the town’s quarterback maybe jumped practice to check out the new bridge. It says a lot that this gentleman has become such a phenomenon, really. Whether time traveling or not, either way you look at it, the Time Traveler really goes to show the power of style on our perception.

Time is but a rigid system of organization, and really doesn’t condemn a time period to a strict set of rules as most Costume and Clothing History likes to dictate. Whether 1941 or 2012, the Time Traveler in this photo has stood out so much for his unique one-of-a-kind sensibility and ability to stand out in a crowd. The mainstream moves in one direction, but there will always be individuals doing it their own way.

Here at The Eye of Faith we’re always looking to the past and searching  all over for great vintage finds. The power of style is that it is absolutely timeless, so whenever we feel like going back in time we can dress the part.

You can too! Be your own Fashion Time Traveler, and don’t let your perception of time hold you down. Everyone loves a good story, and who knows, maybe in 70 years you will be going viral too!

Let’s transcend time!

What more can be said? It truly seems like this boy is taking part in some sort of magical mystery moment; hands to the sky, as if to catch something we can’t quite see. Praising the sky. . .

This one is about the effortless nature of classic dress, and how those perfect touches (like the tie, or the stripe details on the jacket) take a look to the next level, allowing you to achieve the true spirit you were meant to portray.
