{MUSIC MINUTE} “GIGI IN PARADISCO” by +DALIDA+

Iolanda Cristina Gigliotti ( 17 January 1933 – 3 May 1987) better known as Dalida (داليدا‎)

+Before Beyonce there was Dalida.+

This exotic beauty of Italian descent and born in Cairo, Egypt rose to international fame throughout the 1960s and all the way to her suicide in the 1980s. A suicide over a broken heart only days after appearing in television interviews perfectly normal…love was her worst enemy in life.

She sold upwards of 140 million albums; Beyonce has sold 17 million solo, and 17 million with Destiny’s Child which really puts it into perspective (although, our girl Rihanna has sold upwards of 230 million records, so . . . ).

Special thanks to +THE ULTIMATE FASHION HISTORY+ Channel and its fabulous curator Amanda Halley for introducing us to this dazzling Diva. I’m sure we will focus on her again in future posts! The more you dive into her memory, the  more incredible she becomes.

There was actually a biopic released in 2017 about her which we are dying to see! Check out the trailer here.

This is a wonderful disco extravaganza from 1979-1980 (?) entitled “GIGI IN PARADISCO”. It’s a total odyssey of 1970s crazy euro party glamour!

Let us know what you think in +COMMENTS+ below…

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance…

I hope you dance!

Until next time,

{MUSIC MINUTE} Rainbow Melody: Joni Mitchell, Mama Cass and Mary Travers.

We are so excited to announce that we will be costuming “HAIR” at Hamilton Theatre Inc. this May, and for the first time in ages your boys at The Eye of Faith will be gracing the stage as peace-loving, flower-wearing, fringe-flinging New York City hippies during the Summer of Love!

So to celebrate the news, we thought we’d bring back this {MUSIC MINUTE} that we originally posted back in 2012!

We love this performance from the 6.26.1969 episode of “The Mama Cass Show”! Like, the fact that a celebrity like Mama Cass existed and went as far to hosting her own T.V. show is so flipping cool! This performance features Mama Cass herself, Canadian Lady of the Canyon Joni Mitchell and Peter, Paul & Mary’s own Mary Travers. It’s a beautiful song, and they all look beyond great!

Photos courtesy of Joni Mitchell

Its a great way to kick-off our dive into the rabbit-hole of 60s psychedelic glory, and we can’t wait! We will be posting more inspirations in the days and months to come!

Also in the spirit of The Eye of Faith and our union of the {past},{present}, and {future} check out how remarkable of a parallel it is between the fashion donned by especially Mama Cass and Joni Mitchell align with Chloe’s latest S/S 16 showcase in Paris!

What’s more is that the Claire Waight Keller’s Chloe collection is actual ly an ode to the 90s (after all, 60s bohemian fashions had a bit of a revival in the 90s), so we are actually being treated to quite the smoothie of fashion style, going to show how important it is, and empowering it is to have all eyes open, and take in all we can to create a richer, and ultimately more beautiful life!

The Eye of Faith Presents +Hollywood Babylon+ September 12, 2015 @ 3pm SUPERCRAWL 2015

hollywood babylon large

It’s almost that time of year again! Supercrawl is going to take over the streets for three days of music, fashion, art, and FUN. Last year was a blast, and we’re so excited to announce that we will be taking over the Supercrawl Fashion Tent not once, but TWICE this year.

We will be debuting +HOLLYWOOD BABYLON+, our first contemporary collection on Saturday September 12 at 3pm in the Supercrawl Fashion Zone Tent, so mark your calendars and save the day. If you will be around and would like VIP seats to our show give us an email at the.eye.of.faith@gmail.com!

Our collection was inspired by the decadence and decay of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Combining a street chic attitude with the textures and ease of 1930s/40s leisurewear; looks range from a Hollywood starlet enjoying an afternoon cocktail by the pool to dangerous ingenues in metallic evening gowns that put a meaning to “if looks could kill…”

It’s a bit of a departure for us, especially if you have been following our side since the beginning, but we felt this foray into womenswear would be the perfect breath of fresh air for us, as well as a chance to stretch our creative muscles in a totally new ‘fashion’.

Our biggest pull to this collection was in fact Veda Pierce, the sophisticated, driven, and treacherous daughter of Mildred Pierce in the classic neo-noir “Mildred Pierce”. Here is a girl who is striving to be ahead of the norm, worldly and too classy for her own good.

She’s not afraid to do anything to get what she wants in life, and on top of it all she is devastatingly gorgeous and talented to boot. Perhaps a little too dangerous and manipulative for most people’s liking, but she definitely helped spawn our imagination when setting out on this unique opportunity to showcase what we are all about….summoning the {PAST} into the {PRESENT} to help shape the {FUTURE}….

It’s going to be a stellar show, and much blood, sweat, and tears have gone into putting our best foot forward in what can only be described as a bold new chapter in our fashion careers, so don’t miss out! If you’ve noticed that we haven’t been posting too much on our blog this summer- this is why!

Our second show will be on Sunday September 13 in the Supercrawl Fashion Zone Tent from 3p-5p and will be an epic spectacle of vintage fashion aptly named The Eye of Faith Presents A Vintage Showcase!!! That’s right folks, we will be curating a two hour long fashion show featuring nothing but vintage head to toe, and will be taking audiences on a ride through time and into the +BEYOND+!!!

We will definitely be posting updates as they come so make sure to FOLLOW US on INSTAGRAM  and TWITTER (@theeyeoffaith) or LIKE US on FACEBOOOK (/theeyeoffaithvintage) to stay informed on all the exciting things we’re up to these days.

I’m pleased to announce that we will be partnering up with Vintage Soul Geek to create this epic showcase of vintage glory, and will also start carrying some select pieces of our collection in their shop come September so watch out!!! More on that soon…but in the meantime, check out our inspiration mood boards for The Eye of Faith Presents a Vintage Showcase!!!!

Got any looks to share, or must-have inspirations?

Let us know in the comments below!

Can’t wait to start getting back in the swing of things.

Much to talk about. But another time…

{MUSIC MINUTE} LILI MARLENE by Marlene Dietrich

MARLENE DIETRICH- DEVIL MAY CARE- the eye of faith vintage

Marlene Dietrich is one of those timeless idols of style that will always be remembered. Owe it to the fact that she always acted an individual – this was not a woman to rely on when it came to playing by the rules. In fact, she made her own, and when it came to her style, it was nothing typical of Hollywood in the 1930s and 40s.

Sure, she had plenty of glamour and glitz, but she fused this with an androgynous flair that left men and women addicted to her. Overall, there is a mystery and sensuality that goes hand in hand when speaking to Marlene Dietrich’s style, life, and music – which is the key reminder that staying true to who you are deep inside is the most timeless thing anyone can do.

{E.O.F. Music Minute} Valentine’s Day-The incomparable David Bowie!

david bowie
So in case you all didn’t realize already, we’re vintage obsessed.

Naturally, we grew up to anything inspiration with a Rock n’ Roll edge, and a revolutionary flair.  David Bowie was a perfect fit for us to call our Idol.  Looking past his music alone, his gender bending outfits, and diversity in his films – this man is astronomically talented!

We know he has many MANY amazing tracks and stellar looks ahead of him in his career for his fans to look forward to.  With films like Labyrinth and The Prestige, The Batman from Gotham City and The Man Who Fell to Earth, how can you NOT be a huge Bowie fan??

It may seem a bit soon to be posting a song about St. Valentine’s day on any other day than Valentine’s day, but anybody with half a braincell would realize rebels don’t care about dates!

Realizing this, David Bowie would obviously feel inclined to release a song about love and St. Valentine in the middle of summer.  We love him for that, and can relate.

We find it very romantic, and could this be viewed as an homage to the ever so striking love of his life/supermodel Iman? Or just a great song with a fantastic melody to make his fans swoon and melt?  Either way, to be lost in a mood of romance and harmony we are feeling very satisfied.

So check out his latest single, Valentine’s day and let us know what you think!

Can’t wait to hear from you!

Look for more articles to come about the Master of Music, David Bowie.

Bringing the Past Back to Life! Behind the Scenes THE GREAT GATSBY & BROOKS BROTHERS

Lets Party! (Gatsby Style)

Brooks Brothers is offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming film remake of the classic 1920’s novel “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

While the 1974 version is iconic in its own right, but Baz Luhrmann’s revamped hyper saturated glittered tour-de-force looks to reimagine the classic tale of lost love and the unrelenting politics of class – it’s a story that manages to continually mirror our own society into 2013.

In fact, the remake has been a long time coming, and its great to see such attention to detail brought by legendary and award-winning production and costume designer Catherine Martin, who seems to have pulled out all the stops to bring a fresh and accurate portrayal of 1920s Gatsby glamour.

For the film, Martin was lucky enough to get a chance to muse through the historical archives at Brooks Brothers (F. Scott Fitzgerald’s  personal favourite place to shop for clothes) to achieve the greatest amount of period accuracy and detail. The result is a much-needed revival of classic American style.

From the dandy that is Gatsby, to the more humble narrator Nick; each character is rich with their own personality, and is bound to inspire countless cults of must-havers!

The most intriguing detail, by far, has to be the skull and bone lining added to the blazers of Tom Buchanan (played by Joel Edgerton) for the film to play off of the character’s privileged Yale roots. . . . Secret society details for days, my dear! Secret society details for days . . .

skull-and-bones-ballot-box

I waited, and sure enough, in a moment she looked at me with an absolute smirk on her lovely face as if she had asserted her membership in a rather distinguished secret society to which she and Tom belonged.

– Quote, ” The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Back in 1974, fashion definitely had a 1920s revival of sorts, and there’s no doubt in my mind that this film is going to take the fashion world by storm again. After all, the vintage-style has been growing stronger and stronger for years now, heading more towards that dandy style that Gatsby epitomizes, and in the world of womenswear, Deco-styles, metallics, sequins, fur, and all-out luxury have been for years on the map. They had it in the cards all along it seems.

Brooks Brothers has prepared an exclusive Behind-the-Scenes look with Catherine Martin who talks of their unique involvement with the film, as well as a bit about the characters she created, so please check it out below!

Enjoy this sumptuous feast for the eyes, and come back soon for more Gatsby indulgences!

The film is set to release May 10, so mark your calendars!

2013 has been a great year for vintage styles, so lets keep ’em coming, Universe . . .

Until next time,

It’s the eternal diva’s birthday today, and we couldn’t get away from showcasing her classic elegance, perseverance, and vivacious sense of self.

We think that she has a soul that should never be forgotten. Luckily, we will always have her music to lift us up off the ground. Words really can’t describe her talents in that area. Just listen to her cover of “For Once In My Life” in Berlin, 1968, above to see why!

Hopefully these photos help invoke the spirit of Ella Fitzgerald to make you smile throughout the day.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Meeting Olive from “BULLETS OVER BROADWAY”

Bullets Over Broadway

Bullets Over Broadway was a great film from 1994, which garnered a second Academy Award for Dianne Wiest, as well as six other nominations including Best Director for Woody Allen. The cast also includes veteran actors such as Tracey Ullman, Jim Broadbent, Chazz Palminteri, and Mary-Louise Parker.

Starring John Cussack as a neurotic playwright in the 1920s, the film follows the follies of making a work of art, and the many pains of compromises of getting a respectable work of art produced. If the title isn’t indication enough, things quickly fall out of whack as the play gets more and more involved with a mobster and his gang.

The film is undoubtedly one of Allen’s best, and if you enjoyed the 1920s period recreation done in Midnight in Paris, you will be sure to love the scenery here – New York, flappers, the 1920s, Art Deco  (everything in swing with the design trends of today, in fact) – and if nothing else, as you will see from this clip, Jennifer Tilly really goes out of her way to steal the show as Olive, the naive and talkative dancer turned Broadway actress.

Bullets Over Broadway (1994)

Some of her lines are the very best. And it is no surprise she got nominated for an Oscar, too, for the crazy kooky character she developed here. Cussack is also great as the Allen-type character, making all the wools, tweeds, vests, ties, messy hair, and academic looks of a playwright come right to life.

If you are a style savant, comedy aficionado, oscar follower, or simply the bored lonely type, then Bullets Over Broadway is the film for you!

Check it out! Hope you enjoy!

Most sincerely,

Music Minute: Diana Ross – “Last Time I Saw Him” on The Muppets Show {1980}

As we mentioned in a previous post, 1980 was a fantastic time for The Muppets Show, their roster of guest hosts were truly extraordinary.  Today we share with you a day that was no  exception.  Ms. Ross stepped in  and filled the half hour with joy using her effervescent way like no other.  Glamour Glitter, Fashion and Fame, Diana Ross is everything Stardom is.

We share the clip of her singing her 1973 hit, Last time I saw him, on the 424 Episode of The Muppets Show in 1980.   Starting out backstage with just Floyd Pepper and Dr. Teeth, eventually moving the performance onstage with the rest of the Electric Mayhem.
