Diary of a Small Town – Vintage Dreams and Nightmares

We have quite the tale in store for you today at The Eye of Faith. This one is taken from the darkest depths of our imagination and tells the hidden tales of a quaint small town, not too far from where you sit. It could be any small town, but this one is brimming with mystery, and dare I say, perhaps even evil!

Things started out innocent enough, but there are certain places on this Earth where malevolent energies cluster and stay for many thousands of years. It is in the quiet of the country, far from the claws and chains of the city, that have provided families and individuals with the peace and calm they desire. But often times, it is the unsettling chill of calm that can provide the most fright.

Even in a town where everyone knows your name, you never know the myths and legends being made behind closed doors or the grim memories lost deep beyond the trees at night. This one is all about wayward youth, rebellion, seduction, secrets, mysteries, beauty, and strength.

To our vintage dreams, and  to our vintage nightmares – this one is to a town not yet forgotten. Keep the mystery close, for you never know what clues you may stumble upon. For all you know, they might still need your help.

E.O.F. Snapshot of the Day {August 30, 2013}

dirk dubois

{ “MUSCLES” Magazine – 1940s/50s (?) – Dick Dubois }

This is some exquisite work on all fronts. Check out the beautiful art direction here. It’s pretty much the epitome of the “lost in paradise” feeling we’re always yearning for here at The Eye of Faith. The colors are magnificent and romantic and beautifully thought through.

Then there’s Mr. Dubois. Dick Dubois. Looking mighty awesome even to today’s standards. In fact I feel like I know guys that would rock those denim shorts, and have that awesome curly, sweeping hair-do – but I’m not sure if any of them have the true body of a Greek God. You have to give it up for these heroes of our modern world. They leave people for us guys to look up to. Is here anything wrong with that?

Best part is people think that this kind of buff man persona is something new invented as of late by surf culture and materialism in the 80s, but it’s completely not the case. Men have always been obsessed with the male form and the male figure, and it has always dominated our world.

That’s why I can equate him to a Greek God, because that’s essentially what their statues were – just depictions of perfection that had been achieved by mortals. Mostly athletes and wrestlers, maybe warriors-  just like these men; Probably athletes (possibly aspiring actors) and young disbanded war vets (the odd criminal, too).

We all deserves our idols. Worship them for strength.

Such a cool cover. They really don’t make ’em like they used to.

Too fucking cool.

FREAKY FRIDAY: Vintage Ancient Aliens! William Shatner’s “Mysteries of the Gods” (1977)

William Shatner- Captain James Kirk

William Shatner is best known as Captain Kirk in the iconic 1960s sci-fi series (the original, tamer, Battlestar Gallactica), marking his first foray into the world of outer space, extra terrestrials, space ships, and other worldly beings. But in 1977, Shatner released a documentary that would have the Canadian star again looking to the stars, this time for answers.

Based on Erich Von Daniken’s best selling series (his feature film documentary “Chariot of the Gods” was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary in 1970), “Mysteries of the Gods” continued on the popular quest to discover from whence we came. It’s the original “Ancient Aliens“.

Did millions of years ago, visitors from other planets come to Earth and help accelerate our primitive ancestor’s genes to propel civilization as we know it today? Scientists often note how remarkable it is that human civilization went from cave dwelling hunter-gathers to suddenly building slick and sophisticated cultures with engineering that defies the capabilities of today’s most advanced technologies.

It definitely is disturbing to think that we live in a world where we still have not figured out how they moved the stones of the Pyramids?! How far behind are we? Or did ancient people have help from our astronaut ancestors, or worse, giants that literally roamed the Earth?

If not, why do so many “primitive” cultures, even today, still tell legends of giant men who made us “normal” humans seem like crickets? Now I’m starting to sound a bit like Shatner, so instead I’ll simply live you with the video itself.

The documentary in its entirety has been uploaded to the web (thank you 21st Century), so you can ponder these questions, in all the 1970s New Age Psychedelia of William Shatner’s “Mysteries of the Gods“.

Don’t miss out on his brown suede shirt – boho chic.

Have a good weekend!
