E.O.F. Snapshot of the Day- October 9, 2013

Alchemical Mysteries. Allegorical Allegories. Skulls and Naked Women.

All things we might never leave behind . . .

Images like this are wonderful remnants that still ring true to this day.

You might not understand it’s meaning, but a meaning will be made immediately in your mind

for which you decide its value or worth. The same can be said for any image, really.

It’s the simple power we all possess –

the ability to make meaning from the most simple or obscure things.

To think. To be. To believe. To see.

It’s what makes us you and me.

Real human beings.

E.O.F. Snapshot of the Day- October 8, 2013

Sometimes it hits you . . .

Life doesn’t always throw you the easiest bone to catch.

You might feel like your reality resembles that of a bad dream, and it all gets a little scary.

The worst part is, we’re all just meant to grin and bear it.

The weird (and evidently expected) thing is that as you look to the past

you see that its always been like that for us humans;

since the dawn of time we have been succumb to adversity.

The universe itself was built under these conditions,

so if it weren’t for the hardships of life we wouldn’t even be here…

It sounds like a dark way to look at life, but I would argue it’s actually optimistic.

Accept life’s struggles for what they are, but don’t be afraid to confront them.

It might seem like a nightmare at first, but like a terrifying roller coaster,

that burst of fear and adrenaline make for all the excitement.

That’s why we buy the $60 tickets!

GHOST HOLE V FUNDRAISER TONIGHT!

GHOST HOLE V FUNDRAISER Poster

It’s that time of year again – October, our favorite month, not only for all the fun you can have with Fall Fashions, but also for all the creepy cool stuff that begins to emerge with Halloween in our midst!! And with Halloween and all that ghoulishly good inspiration all around comes the re-emergence of GHOST HOLE, the all-night art extravaganza which will take place on Toronto Island in its fifth incarnation.

Also exciting is that yours truly will be taking part in the goings-on this year with an art installation entitled “Voodoo Beach” which will bring light to Toronto’s dark slave history with the imagined rituals and romance of voodoo in all its many faces.

This Friday join the curators of GHOST HOLE, and some of Toronto’s best bands for a fundraiser for the event which will provide much needed $$$ to pay for this one of a kind wild night of art and horror, and help provide some much-needed income to the night’s artists’ who have come together to choreograph this wickedly wild experience that you will never forget.

Check out bands Fresh Flesh, Doctor Ew, Wake Island, CRHYMES, and Rambunctious at Double Double Land (209 Augusta Ave) in Kensington Market with a suggested donation of $5 and plenty of cheap drinks to be had all the night through! Sounds like a blast, right?

Be there or be square. Check out this wicked promotions video by the ever-talented Brandon A. Dalmer for the night’s event to help get you in the mood. . .

GHOST HOLE V will take place on Toronto Island at Artscape Gibraltar Point on October 26 and runs deep into the night.

The Nagging Doubt You Can’t Shake . . . PRISSY LIPS!!!

PRISSY LIPS - 1

Meet PRISSYLIPS, a Brighton-based alternative due consisting of Crysi de Milo & Reuben Drake. They play “post-apocalyptic new wave protest songs shaped out of love letters, suicide notes, death threats, and shit lists”.

Being the “bright new darlings of the avant-garde”, we couldn’t but help give our friends, fans, and followers a little taste and insight into the “nagging doubt you can’t shake” that is PRISSY LIPS. Keep your eyes and ears open for this gruesome twosome.

Once again, our brilliant correspondent John Wisniewski was able to get the inside scoop!

Check it out:

JOHN: How did Prissy Lips form?
PRISSYLIPS: PRISSYLIPS is what happens when living becomes desperate… it’s the voice of the beaten generation… it’s the culmination of ten years on the edge of the blade.. I met my guitarist, Reuben, about 4 years ago when we were both fucked-up self-destruct-button-pressers and we embarked on a crazy schizo train-wreck of a relationship and this is where we ended up. PRISSYLIPS is like finally clearing your throat properly after 10 years. It is my catharsis, my therapy, my bread and butter and my deepest secrets.
JOHN: What was the first record that you released?
PRISSYLIPS: We haven’t released an LP yet but have an EP (“Hissy Fits”) in production. The first song we released was a 6-minute Bolan-esque guitar ballad  called “Hermaphrodité” which is about the choice I made in being true to myself and so forsaking love! The post-gender blues. I always thought of it as “the Breech Birth of Venus”… it’s a very depressing song but a lot of our songs have come from the dankest, most fucked-up or self-loathing corners of my mind.
JOHN: Prissy recorded a cover of the song “Female Trouble” used in John Waters film of the same name? Are you both fans of John’s films?
PRISSYLIPS: John Waters is pretty much the Pope at our house. His films are staggering works of genius, and Divine a legend. We were honored to be asked to perform at the Brighton premiere of “I Am Divine”, which was an awesome night full of beauty and reverence and boundary destruction… I want to be friends with the Dreamlanders and visit Baltimore. I think John’s book “Shock Value” should be on the bedside table of the world!

David Jones and The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Long-Haired Men

Young David Bowie- Hunky Dory- Long Hair

Before he was Ziggy Stardust, before he was even David Bowie – there was David Jones, a long-haired boy with big dreams and a soaring sense of the world around him.

We found this really cool clip of the young David Jones being interviewed on the BBC at only 17 discussing his foundation: The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Long-Haired Men.

Ultimately, I feel like this clip goes to show that you don’t become a rebel, you are just born one.

It’s all got to stop! They’ve had enough! The worms are turning. The rebellion of the long hairs is on it’s way!

Long Haired David Bowie

My, how things have changed! Or have they?

What’s your take on the perception of men who have long hair?!
