+PAMELA COLMAN SMITH+ aka PIXIE 🧚🏼‍♀️ was born {1878} in central #london and was the grand daughter of Cyrus Smith- Mayor of Brooklyn 🤯 She grew up in Jamaica 🇯🇲 before moving back to Brooklyn to attend #artschool at the @prattinstitute under #arthurwesleydow where she harnessed her skills as an illustrator and painter 👩‍🎨 After her parents death at the age of 21 she moved back to England to continue her flourishing illustration career and began working at the #lyceumtheatre, which was partly managed by 🧛🏻‍♂️ #bramstoker 😱 doing scenic and costume work whilst launching her own studio (the toast of London #bohemia all attended), her own magazine, and illustrating for various prominent poets and authors of the era including #williambutleryeats who thereby introduced her to the #hermetic #orderofthegoldendawn where she would meet #arthuredwardwaite. He would soon thereafter commission her to apply her magical gifts to a single deck of #tarot made for #divination 🔮 with an emphasis on #art. Published in 1909, her timeless #illustrations have become the basis for most modern #tarotdecks to this day 🙏🏻 Sadly, she died penniless in 1951, and all her possessions and artwork auctioned to settle her outstanding debts. 👁 #riderwaitesmith #riderwaitetarot #pamelacolmansmith #illustrator #artist #tarothistory #thempreyouknow #vintagelove #vintagelife #vintagetarot #tarotcards
