THE EYE OF FAITH TURNS LUCKY 7!!!

Can you believe that 7 years ago on this day, the fateful evening of 11/11/11, The Eye of Faith was born!!! I think it’s hard for us to believe it, and there’s definitely no way we ever could have dreamed of where it would have led us today, so feel eternally blessed!

Through thick and thin, we have always persevered and made sure to keep our passions alive. When they say, never give up – it really is true. And that has always been the founding voice of The Eye of Faith; which is an age old symbol of destiny, believing in your dreams, knowing that there is that symbolic eye in the sky watching out for your best interest, just so long you are in tuned with your own special energy.

We began as a fashion blog fusing our interests in vintage style, nostalgia, rebels, pop culture, the occult, esoterica, cinema, art, culture …our blog had once been described as falling down the rabbit hole, which pleased us beyond belief!!! From our very first blog post we never could have imagined that we would be featured on Refinery29 (alongside news of Lady Gaga & Beyonce!), and feature interviews with Patti Quatro and NIRVANA’s original drummer, Chad Channing!

From there, we began curating a modest collection of vintage clothes that we sold online, which led to our first ever real life Pop Up at the Junction Flea!!! Its insane to think that was our very first, and we felt so much excitement to get our vibe out there, and the excitement hasn’t ceased and we have since done so many pop-ups its hard to keep count!

{googling THE EYE OF FAITH VINTAGE!!!}

Then came our foray into fashion design which was encouraged by our friends at Blackbird Studios who had seen our vintage collection and style and pointed out that we should get our hands dirty and create our own pieces!

We took that encouragement and premiered our first handmade collection at Supercrawl 2015 with +HOLLYWOOD BABYLON+ , and have since shown collections +TAROT+, +NEW KINGDOM+, WUTHERING HEIGHTS, and our most recent THE VISITORS (which we will posting photos of soon!). This has been an awesome endeavour that allows for a new avenue of creativity that blends our passions for vintage styles, storytelling, theatre, art, music, and design. Using vintage textiles has also allowed us to continue our invocation of the {PAST} , {PRESENT}, and {FUTURE} and their symbiotic flow.

{check out collections here}

Now, on this fortuitous day, we embark on a new endeavour with a physical location for all our local friends and fashion lovers to visit and purchase some unique, E.O.F. approved, vintage finds as well as some of our handmade one of a kind pieces!

From now on, find our collection at the HAMILTON ANTIQUE MALL {233 Ottawa St. N – Hamilton, Ontario} in booth 33E on the THIRD FLOOR.  And in case you didn’t consider it, how crazy is it that we established our brand 11/11/11 which coincidently adds up to 33! Also, the highest level you can make as a mason, and since we always had a bit of a secret society inspiration, it seemed beyond fitting.

COME CHECK US OUT!!!

So in the end, we are so grateful and thankful for everyone who has supported us, and encouraged us over the years, and especially to our readers and followers who help keep our passion stewing!

We wouldn’t be doing anything if this if it weren’t for that, so THANK YOU for 7 amazing years, and to many more!

Until next time,

The Eye of Faith Presents Karaoke Cabaret Tuesday!

cabaraetposter karaoke
So in case you haven’t heard, us boys from The Eye of Faith have begun hosting a Karaoke night at Hamilton’s very own The Baltimore House.

The guys there were so kind to allow us to run a bi-weekly event where we get take over their bar where people get to have perform, enjoy some drinks and laughs with friends, and let loose on a Tuesday.

Our love for karaoke began a few months ago. What can we say? We got the bug.

One begins their karaoke journey bashful, unassuming and reluctant to sing.  After some liquid courage and razzing from peers, it’s time to shine.  Our Underground Karaoke Crew (UKC) started off small with 4 or 5 close pals and gals, and evolved quickly into 15-20 people would show up to our apartment ready to party.

Before we knew it the Cops came to break up the apparent riot! So once we realized we were growing too big for our bridges we needed a solution.

Then came Baltimore House.

Now we get to host a party every other week where we encourage participation whether it be dancing along to an amateur performer living for the glory of that spotlight, or riding that wave of none judgemental adoration from the room.  We just enjoy witnessing the joy that karaoke brings to what may be a ordinary Tuesday night spent inside.

Please check out our Facebook group page below where we post photos and videos of all the madness from our evenings out.

And please if you are in the Hamilton area we’d love to see ya!

Frankly, the Karaoke Gods have spoken…

and they want you there to!

April Flea! @JunctionFlea Says Goodbye to the Great Hall ! Come to the Last Show on Queen Street!

FLEA_Poster11x17april

The Junction Flea has always been good to us here at The Eye of Faith.

We were lucky enough to have our public debut, and first pop-up, with the Flea in January, and since then, we can’t imagine not being a part of it all. On top of being with our favourite shops in the city, we’ve been able to meet a lot of really fun and cool people in the process, which has really made it all the more worth while.

If you’re in Toronto on April 14th, make sure to stop by The Great Hall and get your fix of amazing hand-picked vintage and handmade realness!

We will be bringing with us our usual mix of timeless, classic, out-of-control menswear at great prices, as well as our secret womenswear finds that you can only currently find from us at each month’s Flea. We’ve also been collecting treasures this month to bring to the flea like vintage art, unusual snapshots, legendary fashion magazine issues, vintage LPs, and 1960s horror comics. We’ve got our eye on the prize, after all (this is The Eye of Faith)!

So be sure to stop by, grab a coffee or some dumplings and find something that was truly meant for you . . .

You can get a preview of what to expect by checking out our Etsy shop, and for more on the Junction Flea, be sure to check out their blog!

This should be big, so don’t miss out!

E.O.F. Style Idol: Pablo Picasso

What can we say about Pablo Picasso that hasn’t been said? Genius is a word that gets thrown around a lot , and justly so – the man completely reconfigured the landscape of creative and artistic possibility for all people that continues to flourish to this day.

{THANKS, PICASSO!}

However, in our one-stop society it’s easy to forget all the other titles that come to mind: rebel, clown, father, grandfather, playboy – but rarely do we find the artistic impresario ranking the  best dressed list for men’s style, and that’s a {goddamn} shame! Here is a man that not only redefined the art world, but took on menswear with an equally individualistic eye.

Luckily, we are always looking for idols to worship here at The Eye of Faith, so it was not hard to add Pablo Picasso to our growing rank of E.O.F. Style Idols! And here’s why:

Easily one of the most effortlessly stylish men to have graced the Earth, around here we’ve come to revere the art God’s sense for simplicity when it comes to getting dressed. With little more than a pair of shorts for the beach, a great pair of leather sandals, and a striped shirt- Picasso shows it doesn’t take much to get the job done.

Look for work wear inspiration at every turn – after all, much of Picasso’s life was spent working in his studio, so it’s no surprise to see a fine collection of simple cotton button-up shirts adorning the man in most of his photos.  These shirts are more often black, but we favor some of the bolder options- like polka dot, gingham, and check. Especially, for the warm weather, feel the urge and brighten up a little!

We can definitely learn a thing or two from the nonchalance and effortlessness of such a well-rounded and inspiring man. The key, is definitely in one’s own attitude. Picasso believed:

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”

and it’s this sentiment exactly that we find in Picasso’s life day-to-day. The ability to laugh at life’s many pressures and queries, and enjoy life to the fullest is every man’s greatest challenge.

So, while the weather has shaped up for the better, best enjoy it to the fullest, and keep it easy and breezy like you’re on the beach with Picasso! That way, your time can be best spent living instead of all the fussing. After all, you never know when you might want to bust out the paint! Best pick articles of clothing that best suit paint splotches…

When it comes to summer- always look for comfort. It’s too hot to have to care, most of the time. So looking good doesn’t have to get you down whatsoever. Instead, just play your style cards few but freely, always seeking simple looks to get you through the hours, or day.

Here in Toronto, we are lucky enough to get a visit from the artist. While under renovation, some of the artists’ most famous works from the Musee National Picasso are being housed at the AGO.

Staff of The Eye of Faith had a chance to visit the exhibition, which provided plenty of wonderful insight into Picasso’s character, as well as the chance to see some of his most famous works right up close! It’s a fairly large footprint, and the curators of the exhibit definitely do a great job at portraying Picasso’s long-lasting legacy.

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of the everyday.”

-Pablo Picasso

How exciting! It’s not every day the AGO gets shipped such iconic (and expensive) pieces of history – from Paris, nonetheless! So if you’re lucky enough to be in Toronto, or are planning to make the visit, definitely make sure you add Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musee National Picasso, Paris to your TO-DO list.

The show runs until August 26, 2012 and is sponsored by BMO. Don’t waste another minute! The show was packed when we made our visit, so make sure you don’t miss out on your chance!
