Crazy Mens Vintage 1950s / 60s Hair Style Videos!

Like every style discerning woman, a man needs a good hair-do too “…to give him all the confidence he needs” – at least according to these crazy 1950s / 60s archival films documenting some of the most popping hair crazes of the moment!

“No longer is it fashionable to have short backened sides; today a gentleman must concentrate on curls”, and perms, and matching partner twists!

God, there’s something so fantastic about watching these incredible dos be created and crafted so artfully by their technicians, and then enjoyed so outrightly by the men getting these out-of-this-world creations.

It means a lot to take pride your appearance, and most definitely at this time would have been perhaps quite strange to take it to this level – but these days we all know that books can most definitely be judged by their covers, so you might as well look your very best! And boy, did these boys know that . . .most particularly love the teen influences taking place here (ie. “The Twist” the dance, and matching partner hairstyle).

There is a huge resurgence of the male coiffure taking place these days, so don’t be surprised if you start seeing more complicated styles popping up in the {future} or near {present}. Even if we are wrong, it would sure be damn cool if they did!

It’s all about that transformative power of style, and if you can harness that ability, you got it made in the shade.

So, we hope you enjoy this cool blasts from the {past} and/or possibly {future}!

 Until next time,

Music Minute: Krzysztof Komeda “Rosemary’s Baby Interlude”

Rosemarys-Baby-p01

Setting Up For Stan- Rosemary's Baby- Scream

“A chance to sit quietly and find out who you are; where you’ve been and where you’re going.”

-Ira Levin, Rosemary’s Baby

{published in 1967}

I called this an interlude because of its sauntering sweet nature between the high stakes and drama that is”Rosemary’s Baby”.

Polanski’s iconic film had many claiming he had beckoned the murder of his glamorous superstar wife, Sharon Tate just months following the film’s release, with this chilling tale of a wife sold to a coven of witches to give birth to the child of Satan!

The track is featured in a montage of Rosemary’s gleefully completing the contemporary turn-over of her new apartment (just before receiving a visit from her eccentric neighbour, Minnie).

The myth of the curse on the film was further perpetuated when John Lennon was murdered just outside the historic and now notorious Dakota building (below) just across the street from Central Park in New York City.

{DO-IT-RIGHT} Sweater Weather: How-To Vintage Mens’ Knitwear Inspiration

Handsome Vintage Sweater Inspiration - Timeles & Classic

“The time has come”, the style man said, “To talk of many things . . . “

We’ll stop with the strange allusions, but we did want to talk of many things today.

Of style, of class, of tradition, and function. Of beauty and elegance, of aesthetic, also.

But most importantly, we speak to that uncompromising soul quivering deep within that refuses to

accept anything foreign of divination. . .  Meaning, you want to look good.

We all do, and that’s some strong power if you can harness it wisely.

Steve McQueen Doesnt Even Want To Go Into It

{STYLE WISE} Invocating Nico + “Valley of the Kings”

Nico with a Hersheys Bar

I am bohemian but at one time you would call me a hippie or a punk. I remain a bohemian whatever you call me. So maybe I am locked in the fifties. But I have never desired to grow up from my world as a child, which is when things are most clear and utopian. They are clear because you are at the center and you see all around you. When you get older you lose your sight …

-Nico.

It’s been 25 years since the death of Nico.

Beautiful, provocative, sexual, sinister, simple, and sublime; this fascinating spirit still wanders through our world through her music, and inspiringly exciting life. Every single day, individuals conjure the notion of Nico in hopes of holding onto just a bit of that magic mystery this woman possessed.

Here’s a song for you called “Valley of the Kings” that just had to go up on here. It’s moody and majestic and brings me to a stylishly solemn place; perfect to reminisce the majesty that was this Queen. Her voice soars, and there’s no denying some good organ action.

Born in Cologne, Germany, her entourage included the likes of Andy Warhol, Federico Fellini, Brian Jones, and of course, The Velvet Underground, for which her voice and one-of-a-kind beauty served as a solid platform for the now iconic bohemian band.

I’ve only uploaded a few pictures on here because there’s quite a few great ones in the video below. So please enjoy, and celebrate the legacy of this soulful siren.

I would say the time has not yet come. I rebel against the present, whenever it is, because I have not seen any change, other than oppositions grow stronger.

Getting Down To Business! Stylish Business Fashion for Men

When it comes to fashion, men often find it rather challenging to create their own style.

The reason for this, arguably, may be that men’s fashion is more streamlined with often fewer options to create an individual look and style. This is especially true in business fashion, where the dress-codes for men tend to be exactly defined.

While clearly defined dress-codes make the selection for the right business attire easier, they also hold one decisive disadvantage for the stylish and style-conscious man: this uniformity makes it a lot harder to create an individual style.

Matching tie and shirt

This is where stylish men’s accessories come into play. They provide a subtle way of underlining one’s own style and sense of fashion in the often rigid business world. This is why, when it comes to stylish business accessories, the devil is in the detail.

Hereby, the tie that one wears in combination with the suit can be a statement in itself.

The tie is the part of the business attire that shows the largest variation in colors, patterns and styles. When picking a tie, it should provide a contrast to the shirt, which can be created by observing some color matching patterns. The style-conscious man will seek to stand out in the streamlined business fashion by either wearing a stylish shirt or a unique tie.

Elegant watches – The perfect accessory

When it comes to accessories, there is arguably nothing more stylish than wearing a unique and timeless watch.

MENS Business Fashion- Pile of Watches

While today there are many precise timekeeping devices available, trademark watches have lost none of their appeal in modern times. On the contrary, brands like Cartier are more popular than ever before, since they provide an essentially manly accessory that combines technology, fine craftsmanship and art.

These features make premium watches the confident and style-conscious man’s best friend.

Whether you spell it Rachmaninoff or Rachmaninov, Sergei Rachmaninoff was a man of undoubted personal style.

Sergei Rachmaninoff Black and White Portrait

A subtle style. But a sure of himself style. It’s the kind of style you could expect from the man who created some of the most complex, dark, and demanding music ever created (Anyone who saw “Shine” knows what I mean . . .).

noah

Cecil Parkes: Rachmaninov? Are you sure?

David: Kind of. I’m not really sure about anything.

Cecil Parkes: The Rach 3. It’s monumental.

David: It’s a mountain. The hardest piece you could everest play.

SHINE (1996)

In fact, this is the song that makes the then not crazy, brilliant Australian piano protege David Helfgott (played by Noah Cross), literally go crazy, to emerge as a still brilliant, but crazy,  Australian piano protege

So if that’s any sign, be sure to imagine this man’s mastery as you listen to him play his own composition – the dangerously, beautifully romantic, mysterious, and powerful piece, “Piano Concerto No. 3 in D Minor {Op. 30}“.

Sergei_Rachmaninoff,_1910s

Sergei+Rachmaninoff

One of the greatest pianists there ever was, he was also known to have an uncanny memory, and with a set of extra large hands (Marfan Syndrome), he was able to maneuver some of the most complex and challenging chordal configurations.

He managed to escape the Russian Revolution, and even recorded with Thomas Edison in the earliest days of record making, creating recordings for Edison’s phonograph.

He eventually died just four days before his 70th birthday in Beverly Hills, California.

With style comes great taste. One of the benefits of great taste, is that you can enjoy music like this. . .

This is one of his most provocative and moving pieces he ever wrote, and with the help of today’s technology, we can listen to a recording of the man himself, Sergei Rachmaninoff, performing his own, legendary masterwork.

And, maybe one day you will create a masterpiece like this one.

Or maybe you already have? That’s for you to decide.
