{MUSIC MINUTE} “GIGI IN PARADISCO” by +DALIDA+

Iolanda Cristina Gigliotti ( 17 January 1933 – 3 May 1987) better known as Dalida (داليدا‎)

+Before Beyonce there was Dalida.+

This exotic beauty of Italian descent and born in Cairo, Egypt rose to international fame throughout the 1960s and all the way to her suicide in the 1980s. A suicide over a broken heart only days after appearing in television interviews perfectly normal…love was her worst enemy in life.

She sold upwards of 140 million albums; Beyonce has sold 17 million solo, and 17 million with Destiny’s Child which really puts it into perspective (although, our girl Rihanna has sold upwards of 230 million records, so . . . ).

Special thanks to +THE ULTIMATE FASHION HISTORY+ Channel and its fabulous curator Amanda Halley for introducing us to this dazzling Diva. I’m sure we will focus on her again in future posts! The more you dive into her memory, the  more incredible she becomes.

There was actually a biopic released in 2017 about her which we are dying to see! Check out the trailer here.

This is a wonderful disco extravaganza from 1979-1980 (?) entitled “GIGI IN PARADISCO”. It’s a total odyssey of 1970s crazy euro party glamour!

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance…

I hope you dance!

Kurt Cobain- King of Irreverence- The Eye of Faith Vintage- Mens Style Inspiration-1

As the title of this song says, “All Apologies”!!! Mostly for our truency. Have been having a very busy 2016 thus far, but can’t wait to be back. Got a few things planned up our sleeves, so please stay tuned. . .

In the meantime, enjoy this video, and this classic angsty tune by the King of Irreverence himself, Kurt Cobain. Filmed at Reading Music Festival in 1992, the video was posthumously released in 2009 by Geffen Records.

Back When Boxing a Bear Was a ‘Thing’ . . .

Men Who Fight Bears- The Eye of Faith 2

It’s hard to really pinpoint when men decided to take up boxing bears, but according to a recent article on VICE Fightland Blog the tradition began sometime in the mid-nineteenth century, and made its grand debut in New York in 1877 ( ‘Pyrenean Bear, who wrestles all comers under the rules’).

Check out these INSANE pictures from the post by Sarah Kurchak, and click here to read more about this fascinating, brutal, and peculiar time in history where boxing a bear was and in some cases, still is, all the rage . . .

Mad Memories- Photographing Suitcases from New York State Mental Asylum

article-2338714-1A3C37BE000005DC-398_964x562

In 1995, 400 suitcases were recovered from the attic of the Willard State Asylum in Upstate New York. Many patients died at the asylum and were buried in graves marked only by numbers. For many, these suitcases are the only traces left of these sad, lost, and lonely lives.

{click here to watch a creepy video infiltrating the now abandoned Willard State Asylum}

Dating between 1910 and 1960, photographer Jon Crispin has begun the chilling endeavour of cataloguing each suitcase and the contents therein. These people were deemed unfit for society, but Crispin’s photographs reveal a tragic humanity to the individuals whose memory remain in the mysterious objects and photos in these many bags and luggages.

Being the lovers of mystery we are, we couldn’t help but share some of these photos with you here, and the strange enigma they leave for us to ponder.

Music Minute: “The Mad Scientist” by The Zanies

anatomy,antique,grotesque,photo,surreal,heads-dbae035747173c154fcbd832be19ab2b_h
Straight from soundtracks of teen and biker movies of the past, we stumbled onto this delight by ‘The Zanies’.  Sounding completely wrapped and psychotic, we were impressed by the catchy piano plunking, and crazed laughter which we can completely relate to.

“Boy, is he nuts!”

And you better believe here at the Eye of Faith, the madder the science, the more up our alley it is!   So enjoy this wild track! We have it on repeat! Shrouded by a veil of mystery, we had trouble finding information on this group… so if any of our loyal readers have the inside scoop, please give us a heads up!
