Here we are now, entertain us . . .

With September unfolding, seems like we can’t help but get wrapped up in all the back to school spirit. The youth is on fire in the streets, and we’ve been given the chance to meet so many unique young individuals in the city and around the world. In fact, it’s impossible to not feel inspired!

We got the title of this {PHOTOBLAST} series from the classic Nirvana single “Smells Like Teen Spirit” which still wreaks its foul mouthed odour over our culture and society.

On top of that, one of our favourite Youtube channels React by the Fine Bros. released a Teen React to Smells Like Teen Spirit video that just had our mind gushing with limitless energizing spirit.

Shock me one last time before I go back to the garden

This {PHOTOBLAST} is dedicated to the fiery souls of the cult of Teen.

It’s really more of a headspace, just like anything else. So don’t be shy, or feel embarassed when all you feel like doing is kicking back with your friends and having a good time. It’s right no matter how old you are.

Plus, it always pays to look good while you’re doing it.

MALEFICENT, MALEFICENT, MALEFICENT!!!

Maleficent

Maleficent has always been a character that has captured our imagination. Since childhood, the prima donna of Disney villains seemed to strike a creepy chord in a way that no other cartoon evil could.

It could have been her sultry voice provided by the insatiably listenable Eleanor Audley (check her out in all her non-animated glory below), or perhaps it’s the sheer imagery of that everlastingly long black cloak with those crazy twisted ram horns that make her the epitome of devilish delight to our child-like eyes.

Whatever it may be, there’s no denying the staying power of she. It’s been 55 years since Disney first released its vivid version of Sleeping Beauty based off of Charles Perrault’s La Belle Au Bois Dormant, and the Grimms Brothers’ Little Briar Rose, and in the spirit of regeneration the {past} has made its way to the {present} yet again in a epic retelling of the story as seen through the eyes of the maniacal maven herself. . .

Maleficent.

It’s a name that will be on everybody’s lips in a few short months with an early release in France & Italy on the 28th of May, and the rest of the world, including the US on the 30th. It’s months away, but we can’t stop drooling over the new trailers which are feast for the senses in themselves, showcasing Elle Fanning’s angelic beauty as the Princess Aurora, and the Queen herself, Angelina Jolie taking the screen as the iconic villainess.

It’s bound to be a huge hit, and much praise shall be given to the cast and crew for creating this movie magic marvel. . . there’s no doubting it. Plus, how can you go wrong with Angelina Jolie leading the whole thing?

What strikes me most is that the film being told through the point of view of Maleficent will no doubt shed some light on why she decided to become so damn mean. I think I kind of get it – I mean, she was totally shafted from attending Aurora’s birthday party. That IS pretty rude, don’t you think? I guess we will just have to wait for all the insight . . .

In the meantime, you will find us getting drunk on another amalgamation of the {past}, {present}, and {future} with Lana Del Rey’s sweeping take on 1959’s Sleeping Beauty’s original love theme “Once Upon a Dream” based off a theme from Tchaikovsky’s 1890 ballet. With the cooing of her Monroe-esque voice, there was no one more perfect to elevate this classic to a place that resonates today, and beyond . . .

Listen to it below!

Don’t you love that feeling? Of having dreamt the moment before it happens . . .

I get that feeling a lot these days.

I guess that’s what you get for having that Eye of Faith.

Love predicting the {future}. Love keeping you posted.

Love you also for visiting.

Until we meet again!

Annette funicello muscle beach party

This week we were saddened to learn about the passing of 1960s surf film star and legend, Annette Funicello. Before Victoria Justice, Miley Cyrus, and even Britney Spears there was Annette Funicello who epitomized teen stardom throughout the 1950s and 60s.

Growing up in public is especially hard sometimes . . .

The Teen Dream Queen rocked it out in a bikini with a surf board surrounded by musclebound gods to become an icon of the surf lifestyle that the entire globe looked and aspired to. Granted, it was a more wholesome version of real California surf culture, it is still a cornerstone of popular culture to this day.

We love her sexy and sassy looks, and wanted to remember her with a gallery of some of our favourite looks and images of this surf style legend. Annette Funicello passed away at age 70 on April 8, 2013.

Dreams, Nightmares and Fantasies

Tuck your ambition where no one will notice, or wear it one your sleeve!  Only you can decide how you’d like to carry on through this life.  This is a destiny you’ve been planning in the pit of your own subconscious for many nights now!  Deem yourself worthy of being a hero and envision the future waiting around the corner, your destiny is your own to fulfill.

“A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.”
Oscar Wilde

But be forewarned, the demons come out at night to play and to feast.  They harvest our hopes and turn dreams to waking anxiety.   A dream has turned to nightmare in what seemed like a flash, now arousing feelings horror and distress.  But you are more powerful than creature of the dark.  Fight or flight? Do we deem ourselves worthy of accomplishing the many feats which plague us?  Imperfectly conscious, the truth will be told.

“Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.”
Edgar Allan Poe

There is an energy within our dreams which fuels our ambitions.  A strong desire to accomplish more than which greats us each morning, leaving us yearning for more each night.  A fantasy of a richer tomorrow, where dreams are bright, where we won’t see a fright.  We must battle the darkness as it comes to reap our hopes and prayers.

The demons are listening,  we must cast away any doubt!  Stay strong in our fantasies and remember, don’t be afraid of the doubt.

Prince Cover of the Magazine

We may suspect this from somebody as timeless as Jane Fonda, but we were surprised and amused finding the latest cover boys for this month. Perhaps there isn’t anyone more classic than a Disney Prince, these iconic leading men do deserve their day in the sun.

We’re happy to see such a variety of characters portrayed so handsomely. Loving anything out of the ordinary and extraordinary, its easy to understand our fascination with the stories starring these Disney heroes.

Big Thanks to PetiteTiaras for the images.
