{PHOTOBLAST} +LAVARTUS PRODEO+ I wear a mask . . .

We’ve said it time and time again – “Don’t wear a mask, be yourself

There is so much power and pleasure in knowing who you are and literally wearing it on your sleeve, we really wouldn’t have life any other way than just being the real you! That’s why we always promote the joys of individuality, and showcase people who have applied this in their life and style.

But today, we wanted to showcase a strange new trend on the runways that was really epitomized by Moschino’s bondage inspired Pre-Fall/Winter 2018 collection: The Hidden Face!

Yes, indeed! Beautiful models covered in rubber latex so the only thing visible is their eyes and mouth mostly (very a la Season 1 of American Horror Story). For centuries people have seen faces in toast, trees, the moon …now it seems we are aiming to cover the face entirely…take a look at some pics below from the collection:

{see the FULL SHOW from Paris Vogue}

We weren’t too shocked however, because we had already been sourcing some strange style inspirations from the deepest depths of the web of +Larvatus Prode+ (“I wear a mask…”), and thought this would really appeal to our more adventurous readers who love when we explore the dark side of style!

Some cover up for modesty, others for pleasure, and many for secrecy and protection. Whatever the reason, these images truly fascinate us with their strange oddness and beauty.

So, in classic {PHOTOBLAST} fashion, check out this collection of images dedicated to those who present themselves masked…

And remember, we say don’t wear a mask, but if you’re feeling it…

Why the hell not?!

+STYLE STAR+ Say Hello to Max Westin . . .

Max Westin- EOF STYLE STAR - 1

What is there to say about Max Willebrand Westin? The 18 year old style savant from Gothenburg (best name ever!), in Sweden, was kind enough to let us break in on his busy school schedule to pick his brain a little, and learn a bit more about what makes his fashion clock tick.

We were drawn to the dreamy photographs on Max’s blog, and his blending of classic tastes with a youthful post-modern edge. Max is sure to jet to heights of style stardom, or any other place his heart takes him to – so keep a look out for this bright young +STYLE STAR+ right in our midst! One day we can graze the night sky with our eye and find Max shining bright above us all. . .

Max Westin - EOF STYLE STAR - 6
First, a bit of an introduction to yourself. What is your name, and what do you do?
My name is Max and I live in the Gothenburg area in Sweden where I’m currently studying my last term in school. I’m into photography, fashion and I really enjoy travelling. Regardless of how daft this might sound, dressing myself in the morning is many times the highlight of the day. Vintage and retro clothing is an important key to my style.

What would be your earliest fashion memory, and has it played a part in leading you to your fashion future?

I remember starting to care about what I was wearing probably in fifth or sixth grade, when I was eleven or twelve years old. Back then I didn’t know too much about how to dress, but I was really fond of big, graphic t-shirt prints and always went for the bright and vibrant colours. I’m still a big fan of bold colours and prints, but I have fortunately learnt what goes well with what and what doesn’t.

When you wake up in the morning, what thoughts go through your mind while picking out your outfit for the day?

Not much actually. I’m usually putting on four different outfits before I’ve made up my mind. I tend to go either all black or really matchy matchy (it’s a bad habit, I know) with colours and such.

Do you have any go-to inspirations or style idols you look up to in your own style?

Lookbook.nu is a great source of inspiration. There’s quite a lot of people posting and even though, in my opinion, the diversity isn’t the richest, I’m sure everyone would find people and styles that appeal to them. You just need to give it some time. To name a few of them:Mind the MustardJudasLouis PhilippeMinji and the twins Jalan and Jibril
Max Westin - EOF STYLE STAR- 2
What has been your most important lesson in life when it comes to your own personal brand of style?

Dare to try your way! There’s no room for caring what other (mostly insignificant) people think about the way you dress and present yourself. For example, not that it’s groundbreaking, but I as a guy like to wear high-waisted pants and really short shorts and therefore I do so, even though some people may find it disgusting.

Where are your favourite go-to spots to go for killer fashion and style?

In terms of places to shop?  I do most of my shopping at Topman, Weekday, Asos and several thrift/vintage stores.

Max Westin - EOF STYLE STAR - 4

You’re walking down the street and stumble upon a time portal that will take you anywhere you want to go in the history of time. Where do you decide to take it, and why?

Sometime in the 80’s without a doubt! I’d go all in for a hardcore shopping spree, buying tacky silk shirts and leather jackets with huge shoulder pads!

Here’s a fun one. You’ve accidentally conjured up an angry spirit who won’t get the hell out of your closet. You want to call the cops, but you know they won’t believe you so you pull out your exorcism kit and go to work. What is the one thing you are hoping to save from your wardrobe?

Some kind of jacket! My collection of jackets mean the world to me.

Max Westin - EOF STYLE STAR - 3

What is the worst fashion advice you’ve ever heard or been given?

I can’t come up with any specific advice that I’ve heard or so, but in general, I really must say I think that a lot of male style/fashion bloggers are dressing pretty safe and boring, and due to that, they’re also giving safe and boring tips!

Any thoughts of the future of mens fashion and/or fashion in general, through the eyes of Max?
I’d love to see (and I’m sure I will see) more people crossing borders and gender-bending in fashion

Watch Kenneth Anger’s “Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome” (1954)

Inaugaration of the Pleasure Dome- Kenneth Anger

When I first saw “Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome” several years ago I immediately fell in love. I had seen some of Anger’s other works in the past, and happened to stumble upon this amidst my online wanderings, and was blown away by the sheer magnitude and forte this film offered, whilst also being, at heart, a relatively simple film.

It’s the emotion the visuals portray that elevate this film to the realm of the sublime. They take you places your mind has only wandered to in the deepest of sleeps, and brought it to the forefront. It is a portrayal of strange Gods, demons, and spirits in a magic netherworld that is bathed in multi-color technicolor hues that extract this midcentury mystic exotic mood that is purely Anger.

inaugaration-of-the-pleasure-dome-anger

There is a divine decadence in their states of dress paired with the exceptionally sublime music paired to the imagery that create this mood, and it’s forever a place that lurks in and out of our consciousness and inspires the day-to-day. It’s also shocking how forward thinking his visuals are, and how much they have influenced our culture over the years, whether we knew it or not. To think that this film dates back to the 50s is a far cry from the poodle skirts and picket fences we are used to thinking back to in reference to this period.

In the spirit of society, we thought it best to share this with our friends, and let the joy and mystery influence your day-to-day, too. From the sights to to the sets to the sounds, there is everything here to help make your life a more interesting and beautiful place.

Don’t be afraid . . . it’s all a guise.

Kenneth Anger hits the pages of Esquire!

kenneth-anger-promo-43

E.O.F. Style Idol, Hollywood Hero, Mystic Magick Muse, and all-time legendary underground film maker Kenneth Anger has hit the pages of Esquire magazine, marking a continued rise in interest from the mainstream in this myth of man who has rubbed shoulders with everyone from Mick Jagger to Anton LaVey (the forefather of the Church of Satan).

Anger talks about his fascination with occult, Old Hollywood, and stories from his career that have made him an inspiration not only to us, but many hundreds of thousands of people who found solace in his enigmatically beautiful short films from his first Fireworks in 1947,  to his ultra epic Lucifer Rising (1972) which features Marianna Faithfull and a score by the notorious Bobby Beausoleil, who was arrested in collaboration with the Manson family in 1970.

Mick Brown spent 24 hours with the guru of guise, so take a look at what everyone is talking about by clicking here.

{PHOTOBLAST} Do What Thou Wilt . . . [ 11.15.13 / Vintage Photographic Inspiration]

EOF Photoblast- Do What Thou Wilt - The Truth is in the Dirt on the Ground (1940s Snapshot)

+ “Do What Thou Wilt”+

Famous lines spoken by this century’s supreme occultist and libertarian muse, Aleister Crowley. It expresses the very nature of living which is to indulge in one’s senses, and even become one with one’s vices to create a total engagement with oneself that is far apart from self criticism, judgement, or nagging conflict.

It’s a pervasively positive outlook on life, really; one that begs you to be free. The most unique thing you can be, really, is yourself, and no God or society should hold that against you. It’s your right.

sgt-peppers-lonely-hearts-club-band

It is a philosophy embraced by millions around the world, and a magic realist way of living that has influenced countless art forms in the last century; most especially music, with Crowley being a inspiration to The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and countless numbers of heavy metal rock groups.

It’s a doctrine as old as time itself, really, and with the re-release of Crowley’s Original Wax Recordings by Mr. Suit we felt it to be the perfect inspiration for a little vintage photographic inspiration- {PHOTOBLAST}, as we like to call it here, at The Eye of Faith.

After all, it’s been a long while since we’ve featured one of our timeless collages of vintage musings on the site, and just thought- you know what, you guys are worth it!!

So, please, whatever you do- ENJOY!

And, always remember

“Do What Thou Wilt”,

whatever you do.

Photoblast: Playing with the Devils!

It lies within the devils we conjure daily, or the devils we wish to control. Deep in the heart of man, it’s waiting. There is an eternal balance of good and bad. There is a light inside of ourselves, yearning to play with the demons that hide in the shadows.

Wether it be in breath or death, we want a reason to lose ourselves in the hands of the dark. Today we let Satan roll the dice. He’s out to play, and may not go away, but at least we know we’re alive.

“Beauty is mysterious as well as terrible. God and devil are fighting there, and the battlefield is the heart of man.”

Fyodor Dostoevsky

Don’t you know there ain’t no devil, it’s just god when he’s drunk.
Tom Waits

I don’t even own a TV because I think it’s the devil.
Cameron Diaz

I praticed making faces in the mirror and it would drive my mother crazy. She used to scare me by saying that I was going to see the devil if I kept looking in the mirror. That fascinated me even more, of course.
Jim Carrey

I was not content to believe in a personal devil and serve him, in the ordinary sense of the word. I wanted to get hold of him personally and become his chief of staff.
Aleister Crowley

Would you let the Devil in if he pounded on your door with a promise?

The Eye.

We Will Endure to the End

Perdurabo [Latin]:
Verb. (First-person singular future active indicative of perdūrō)

“I will endure to the End”

Aleister Crowley (Oct. 12, 1875 – Dec. 1, 1947)

These are the wise words we at The Eye of Faith have adopted for the upcoming storms, as we at E.O.F. celebrate our one month anniversary! A big thanks to our followers for bringing their great insight, great thoughts, great taste, and above all- great support!

We haven’t been able to update for a while due to the newly arrived winter chill. We knew about it’s bite, but had forgot about it’s sting! Luckily we had the proper armour and shield waiting…Couldn’t not just say a big thanks, and look forward to bringing in more thoughts, ideas, and most of all a touch of E.O.F. style, and class.

A big warm salute to A.C. up there (Aleister Crowley; occultist supreme), and his fabulous magic motto we have up for display to remind us of the fight:

The fight to keep going, the fight to pursue, and the endurance to handle it all, too. On the same note, a high-five to the big J.C. (Jesus Christ) on display there too. He likes to see the world through the crystal, because he likes to see it refract. It’s the only way to see all sides at once…

I think he could relate to Crowley’s (and our own) quest for endurance. Don’t we all?
