THE 80s ARE BACK! 20 RAD 1980s MOVIE POSTER DESIGNS !!! [STRANGER THINGS FEVER]

There have been stranger things in this world than the fact that STRANGER THINGS has become such a huge pop culture phenomenon this year. The second we gazed at the itsy bitsy teaser I knew that something special was in store.

Plus, the fact that it was starring pop culture Queen Winona Ryder, it was just so clear!

If you’re familiar with us, you know that we firmly believe that portals of the past are always open and ready to influx the present, and in the end, help shape the future, and STRANGER THINGS is the perfect example of this.

From the second the show opens with its cavernous rumbling synths and the panning electric red Stephen King-esque font comes into full view, the homage to classic 80s horror occult thrillers is ignited. What follows is a roller coaster ride that has erupted a fever for this brilliantly branded nostalgia.

Nostalgia is the key to this show, and for those who think the past is best left in the past, you might want to reconsider those thoughts, and give this show a shot at infiltrating the imagination with the beauty and wonder that the past has to offer.

We were inspired by the show’s epic 80s style illustrated poster to take a look back at some of the artful posters of films from the 1980s, and how their graphic quality still stands up to this day.

We made a list of 20, and hope it helps sparks some neurons!

Commercial Break: Beware! Children at Play (1989)

Just when we thought we have seen it all, we were stunned to witness some scenes from this slasher film of the late 80s.  With a plot insane enough to make the most disturbed squeamish, and scenes that are beyond ridiculous, we have to instil, we do not condone this type of child bloodshed!  But as bloggers of the antiquated and bizarre, we wanted to share this film with our readers before it slipped through the cracks of mainstream movies.

As children keep going missing, a writer and a cop begin an investigation to uncover what is happening around them! As one lead leads to the next, they discover the children are being brainwashed into zombified cannibal killers by a deranged teenager.

We are putting this one down in the shock-books.  Not only visually is this disturbing to watch the parents turn on their own missing children, but we cannot imagine what the set felt like while filming Beware: Children at Play.

The Iceman Cometh: Vivienne Westwood Fall/Winter 2012

If only everybody had their hearts and heads   with the now 70-year-old Fashion legend, Vivienne Westwood. The world would most definitely be a better place, there’s no question about it. Westwood is always promoting her politics and philosophies, and has made it a staple to her work and persona.

This time her collection featured defrosting models whose fake beards and slick comb overs received a dusting of ice and snow. Inspired by David Attenborough’s “Frozen Planet”, an opus to the frozen corners of the Globe, and the struggle it’s taking for the wildlife of these regions to survive their rapidly changing environment.

“We live in this mad world. If politicians would only see climate change as a priority, we might have a chance…the financial crisis is a symptom of the climate change. We have to stop it or else we really are an endangered species. “

-Vivienne Westwood

Does the state of the planet really not matter that much to us, that the race to make a profit could outweigh our compassion or respect for to the world we live in? There’s going to be a point when the World must come together to work these issues out, but until that happens, these problems will never disappear.

Inspired by Arctic Expeditions, Cool Athleticism, and that signature Westwood twist, the collection foresees that ice man cometh to a city near you.  Westwood has created a modern adventurerer fearless of peril,  unbitten by the frost, and marching to the same geo-political drumbeat of Westwood’s imagination.

Are you ready to fight the cold? Having not been touched by snowfall for the most part of winter (Scary, right?), it really makes us wonder what’s next to come? Not to mention, plenty of reminiscing of the days of Winter when you could look out your window and see the yard freshly covered in snow.

“To hell with the truth! As the history of the world proves, the truth has no bearing on anything. It’s irrelevant and immaterial, as the lawyers say. The lie of a pipe dream is what gives life to the whole misbegotten mad lot of us, drunk or sober.”

Eugene O’Neil, The Iceman Cometh.

We pray those days haven’t yet passed. Till that day we’re just going to keep holding on! We’ll never let go!

Yours truly,
